Alexander Huber - Zeit zum Atmen
Event type: Multivision show
Good reasons for you to be there:
Alexander Huber demonstrates with his impressive mountain stories how valuable courage, freedom, and conscious breaks in life can be.
Alexander Huber operates in the liminal areas of the vertical world, on the eleventh degree of alpine walls as well as on the great mountains of the world. The extreme climber paints a vivid picture of modern alpinism, showcases extreme free climbing in the Alps, on Sardinia, as well as in the cold and thin air of the high peaks of the wild mountains of Pakistan. The incredible images, arranged with fascinating film sequences and music, provide a unique experience. When alpine climbers were deemed to have no future at the end of the 80s because every peak seemed to have been climbed, they had underestimated the new generation of creative climbers. Because in alpinism, as the Huber brothers understand it, the journey is the goal. This journey leads over ridges and difficult walls and should sometimes be mastered extremely quickly and sometimes under extreme conditions. Climbing in the eleventh degree – this is a sport with high physical and psychological demands. The most difficult climbing sections of such routes require a heightened sense of the right movement on the rock and enormous power potential. Alexander takes the audience on a journey to a 2500-meter high rock pillar in the Karakoram and shows them spectacular images at the largest overhang in Europe on Sardinia. Additionally, there is an ascent of the Watzmann East Face with his father and a special music project at the Heidenpfeiler in the Palatinate – all of this paints a colorful picture of the mountains. The younger of the two Huber brothers brings the steep mountain world into a new light. He shows his most beautiful and also most formative moments, which arise from a combination of creativity and discipline, from shared goals and conscious solo ventures. The passion for mountains serves as a metaphor for life and allows space for reflections from impressively powerful perspectives: Time to breathe – for it is not the mountain that you conquer, but always only your own self!
About Alexander Huber: He is among the best mountain climbers and rock climbers of our time. The mountain guide and physicist achieved his first successes in sport climbing. Huber became particularly well-known for his free solo ascents. He opened the first sport climbing route in the upper eleventh degree worldwide. The route "Pan Aroma" as a highlight in alpine rock, the free climbing routes on the big walls of Yosemite, the first ascent of the west wall of Latok II and the free-solo ascent of the Direttissima on the Great Dolomite Spire are the cornerstones of his climbing career. Together with his brother Thomas, he forms the well-known climbing partnership of the "Huberbuam." At the end of 2008, they succeeded in climbing Ulvetanna, the most difficult mountain in Antarctica, and left the most difficult route on the icy continent with the first ascent of the west wall of Holtanna. He became particularly well-known with his brother after the release of the film "Am Limit," which shows them during the speed ascent of The Nose on El Capitan. This film won the Bavarian Film Award and the German Camera Prize. In December 2024, Alexander Huber opened a new route with "Mythos" at the difficulty level of 8c+ in his Berchtesgadener homeland. In July 2025, he succeeded together with top climbers Dani Arnold and Simon Gietl in the ascent of a new route through the east face of Jirishanca, a 6,094-meter high mountain, one of the most striking and steepest walls in the Andes. Alexander Huber runs a farm with his family in Scheffau near Berchtesgaden.
