TWIN NOIR - “2 Punks and a Tape Machine”
TWIN NOIR is a Post-Punk/Wave/EBM artist duo founded in 2021 in Berlin, consisting of Cody Barcelona (vocals, electronics, guitar) and Ian Volt (vocals, bass). The music of TWIN NOIR oscillates between electronically monotonous sounds, wide spheres, and melodic moments, combined with minimalist lyrics in German.
The sound of TWIN NOIR is shaped by an analog tape machine, a sampler, guitars, and a theremin, with which the duo creates its own style of punk and wave music.
Technoid beats, driving basslines, and spheres played sometimes by the synthesizer, sometimes by a guitar create moments that invite dancing, floating, and drifting. The artistic influences of the two musicians range from bands like KRAFTWERK and DAF to the EBM and techno scene, and to punk and rock from the 70s to the 90s.
Live, TWIN NOIR impresses with energetic performances and danceable sound. The show is inspired by the Berlin club culture, punk, and vaudeville, aiming to celebrate and manifest freedom, creativity, and art. The two musicians began their first performances in Berlin in 2022 and have since played in 17 countries. TWIN NOIR toured throughout Europe, the United Kingdom, the Balkans, and Mexico, where they recorded half of their debut album in Mexico City. Back in Europe, they completed the recordings at the “Portugal Recording Studio” near Lisbon, where they also recorded their debut sequel “2 Punks and a Tape Machine - Chapter //” in the summer of 2024.
TWIN NOIR has already achieved significant milestones, including the presentation of two of their songs by Iggy Pop on his BBC Radio 6 show “Iggy Confidential.” They have been listed by the European music initiative “Europelive” as one of the “50 most promising European artists” and have played live in over 17 countries. They have performed at two of the largest European wave/punk festivals: the “Wave Gothic Meeting” in Leipzig and the “Extramuralhas Festival” in Leiria, Portugal, and they toured as the support for DAF – Deutsch Amerikanische Freundschaft and She Past Away.
Kurschatten
Kurschatten have created a cozy-cool nest between post-punk, wave, and rough dark pop. Solitary bass synthesizer kisses desperate chorus guitar, driven by restless percussion. A person sings, sometimes two. The current EP “Tropische Jahre” once again moves between rugged straightforwardness and morbid vibrations.
