"Something is happening here, but you don’t know what it is."
So it probably felt for the parents at the aborted school concert in Hibbing 1959, the guests at Cafe Wha? 1961, the visitors of the Newport Folk Festival 1965, and many who have ever experienced the musical phenomenon Bob Dylan live.
Antonia Lunemann and Daniel Holzberg take us on a kaleidoscopic journey of impressions: songs, lyrics, prophecies, anecdotes, and statements of an iconic artist who has captivated his fans as often as he has eluded their expectations.
"Don't Think Twice" takes us from Dylan's beginnings in folk music through the sudden reversal (perhaps also return) to rock 'n' roll to his status as one of the most versatile songwriters of our time. And it addresses the most important questions: What influence did he have at a very young age on the music of the 60s, what did he mean to many people from that era, and what significance was imposed on him - spokesperson of a generation, prophet, threat to society, organic farmer?
All "truths" about Bob Dylan will be viewed from different perspectives on this evening and remain elastic - after Oscar and Nobel Prize in Literature, the legendary musician certainly wins the prize of elusive quality.
What is tangible, however, is Antonia's and Daniel's love for Dylan's vividly powerful lyrics and catchy songs, where it's not about copying, but rather about an intellectual attempt to connect with this extraordinary phenomenon of the music business.
A total of 20 songs (from over 800 possible!) will be played by the two on guitar, bass, piano, cajon, and drums; and they will also express the world with Dylan-esque disillusionment on the harmonica, while bowing to his inspirations, companions, and critics, including Joan Baez, Pete Seeger, Allen Ginsberg, Mr. Jones, and of course, Woody Guthrie.
