STORIES.WEIN.MUSIK. - Kapitel 28: Kraftwerk

The pioneers of electronic music and their history: In a mix of autobiographical texts, interviews, and an adaptation of their music, STORIES.WEIN.MUSIK. approaches the German cultural phenomenon in "Kapitel 28: Kraftwerk" that has influenced and changed pop music worldwide. The evening highlights life in post-war Germany, the societal upheaval of the 60s and 70s, and tells how an avant-garde movement made international hits like "Das Model," "Computerliebe," or "Autobahn" possible. The readings by Hamburg actor Ben Daniel Jöhnk are woven together with the sound world of the "Kraftwerk" cosmos into a composition of text and music. A four-member band seeks an independent interpretation in the musical source material, merging live electronics with a live performance played by hand. To quote "Kraftwerk": "Musique Non Stop" and of course "Boing Boom Tschak"!

Stories, poems, essays – along with live music, a drink in hand, and conversations with acquaintances and others who may become friends. The soul unwinds, the mind and senses are teased. This is the successful event series by Christoph Jilo in the extraordinary interior of LAB-3: STORIES. WEIN. MUSIK. - accompanied by the Giessen cult gastronomes "Sattblau."

Wortklub: Demokratie-Labor 5 – Anne Brorhilker und Christoph Bartmann

Frustrated by her experiences as a prosecuting chief public prosecutor in the CumEx tax fraud case, Anne Brorhilker switched to the citizen movement Finanzwende in 2024. This year her book was published: Cum/Ex, Billions and Morality: Why the Fight Against Economic Crime is Worth It.

Christoph Bartmann was the director of the Goethe Institutes in Copenhagen, New York, and Warsaw. In his book "Attack from the Right / The New Struggle for Culture," he describes from an international perspective how right-wing populists use cultural policy as a battleground for their ideology.

In the Democracy Laboratory, Anne Brorhilker and Christoph Bartmann report on their work and experiences and discuss the question of where they see the most important points of approach to strengthen a liberal, just, and democratic society from their respective perspectives.

The music in this Wortklub is provided by the pan-European project LIHL4tet, which has formed exclusively for this evening: Lilli Kornhuber (Graz), Irina Alekseeva (Moscow), Hendrik Eichler (Wuppertal), and Luca Müller (Cologne) have come together from various corners of Europe to engage in musical dialogue through composition, improvisation, and on an equal footing.

Democracy Laboratory in the Wortklub

Also this year, the Wortklub invites to domicil again in December with two dates (1st and 15th Dec.) to reflect on what is needed to preserve democracy and human rights and to strengthen coexistence in a modern and tolerant society at the end of a politically and socially eventful year.

These evenings are made possible through the support of the Dortmund company Signal Iduna.

Loopin'Lab - Musicians & Machinery

IT FLASHES, CLATTERS, AND STEAMS: LOOPIN'LAB AWAKENS THE "SPIRIT IN THE MACHINE"
In their steampunk laboratory, the Munich-born musician and tinkerer duo Saschmo and Dimjon create not only songs but a whole machinery. The result is their show "Ghosts in the Machine" – a spectacular performance full of curiosities that playfully breaks the boundaries of an ordinary live concert.

THE THIRD BAND MEMBER: GHOST
The metallic heart of the stage is Ghost: a stunning steampunk machine, constructed by the musicians themselves. Ghost is far more than just a stage prop; it is a full-fledged band member: a mechanical metronome and visual spectacle in one. When live loops meet metal rims, power drills, and repurposed children's toys, a raw, danceable sound emerges, both organic and mechanical, and as unique as the machine itself.

SOUND OF INDUSTRIAL ROMANTICISM OF LIVERPOOL - MucBook

Exactly this eccentric energy is what the two musicians bring to the stage. With virtuosic guitars, thumping basses, and passionate vocals, they are the sound alchemists who bring their songs to life. The repertoire fearlessly shifts from gentle jazz harmonies to blues and reggae up to furious industrial rock. They are also unafraid of covers:
Be it Django Reinhardt, Jimi Hendrix, or Depeche Mode – they are all transformed and rediscovered through the steam-driven Loopin’Lab machinery.

THE LIVE EXPERIENCE: LOVE OF RISK AND LOTS OF HUMOR
“LIKE A MIXTURE
OF DONALD DUCK AND THE
MAD HATTER, THE
TWO MUSICIANS COME ACROSS.
AND EVEN THE BAND NAME
SAYS: THIS IS A LABORATORY”
- Süddeutsche Zeitung

What sets Loopin'Lab apart from highly polished productions is the pure joy of the surprising live moment.
"We’re at our best when something goes wrong," the musicians emphasize. Thus, you will witness a truly authentic
and vibrant cabinet of curiosities, where the unexpected is not only welcome but celebrated.

Theater Laboratorium - Von Zeit zu Zeit

It is 2025. Irene is packing for a big journey. Tomorrow she plans to leave Lüneburg and embark into the eternal ice. An expedition she has been preparing for years. But now she can't bring herself to do it.

It is 1925. Auguste is packing for a big journey. Tomorrow she intends to leave Lüneburg and emigrate to the USA. Nothing holds her back. So she thinks.

Irene and Auguste meet. Two women. Two centuries. A family story spanning four generations.

Everything that was resonates in what is. The sum of energy in the universe is constant, and the past and present are one. What do we bring with us? What is imposed on us? What needs to be looked at? What can we resolve?
