Diknu Schneeberger & Bakanic Quartett
"Avanti, Avanti" was the debut album of the Schneeberger & Bakanic Quartett from 2023. This laid the spectacular foundation that is also the starting point for the journey one embarks upon with "Bella Via." This is the title of the upcoming program, which is understood as a continuation of the first one, both in its instrumentation and stylistically. The path has been chosen, and it is beautiful. Bella Via indeed. The musical journey leads over the Alps to Italy and from there to everywhere: "Alpin Swing" was previously the motto, and this remains true here. Gypsy jazz meets tango, alongside influences from new folk music and world music. Any apprehensions? None. Virtuoso heights alternate with catchy melodies, and the mood shifts from contemplative pauses to infectious Mediterranean vibes that invite dancing. The compositions arise from close collaboration between Diknu Schneeberger and Christian Bakanic: "After three years of working together musically, we now know exactly how we function as a team and also develop our ideas together." This results in sometimes quirky-creative stylistic blends: "We play a tango on the Styrian harmonica or an alpine folk dance that turns into an Afro-Latin piece. We experiment with musical styles, but we never lose sight of our roots, the Gypsy jazz." For guitarist Diknu Schneeberger, a refinement can also be seen in the new program, as when virtuosity is fully explored, one must shift focus to expression: "The quality of my music changes with my emotional state." The quartett skillfully takes the listeners on their musical journey, not to say sweeping them away, allowing them to immerse themselves directly in the sound worlds of their guitar and accordion universe. One cannot resist the joy that this album brings: a desire to dance, a desire to travel, a desire to discover new musical landscapes. "Bella Via" is a road trip in the best sense, culminating in a unique version of "Besame mucho" that indulges in the longing for love. The Schneeberger & Bakanic Quartett has long made a name for itself in recent years and can look back on performances at the Wolkenturm Grafenegg, the Brucknerhaus Linz, the Konzerthaus Vienna, or the Salzburg Festival. The initiators of the quartett, guitar virtuoso Diknu Schneeberger and accordion grandmaster Christian Bakanic, are individually established figures in the Austrian and international music scene, having toured China, Japan, India, Mexico, and Europe. Both independently stand for virtuosity, inventiveness, and spontaneity. Their musical encounter three years ago was a happy accident, as their musical-creative potential seems boundless. With double bassist Martin Heinzle and rhythm guitarist Julian Wohlmuth, the perfect complement to the quartett was found, which is now embarking on its journey again.
