Truly heavenly sounds will be heard by the audience in the Meistersingerhalle this evening!
In the first part of the evening, we will get to know the young composer Elisabeth Fußeder, who has already composed remarkable works for renowned choirs and ensembles and has received multiple awards for her contributions. For those interested, we have provided an excerpt from her biography on our website.
We will begin the evening with ver-such, a setting of the poem "Verleih uns Frieden gnädiglich," for mixed choir a cappella, which she composed at the request of the 1300th anniversary of the Archdiocese of Munich/Freising. After this, the composer will introduce herself to the audience in the Meistersingerhalle in a brief conversation with choir board member Rainer Ostermeyer. Before the intermission, we will premiere Elisabeth Fußeder's work LUE - for mixed choir and orchestra, a commissioned composition by the Philharmonic Choir on the occasion of its 60th choir anniversary.
The second part of the concert evening is dedicated to Ludwig van Beethoven's magnificent Mass in C major op. 86. It was premiered in 1807 in Eisenstadt. At that time, Beethoven was under the influence of his teacher Joseph Haydn, and in Beethoven's sketches for the Gloria, there are two passages from Haydn's Creation Mass. Beethoven distanced himself from traditional mass settings in the Mass in C major, treating the text, according to his own statement, "as it had been treated little so far." The mass is known for its modern and innovative musical language and significantly influenced the development of mass composition in the 19th century. The constant dramatic change between vocal and instrumental passages in this mass presents enormous challenges, particularly for the choir (Source: Wikipedia).
For Beethoven's mass, singers from the Nürnberg University of Music will take on the solo parts.
Joining us for our concert evening, which connects tradition and modernity, are our experienced orchestral partners, the Nürnberger Symphoniker, led by Gordian Teupke, the artistic director of the Philharmonic Choir Nürnberg.
