"Warten auf Hollywood" - Theaterabend mit Thomas Rudnick
Waiting can be nerve-wracking and a real test of patience. It can lead to painful losses from stagnation and hesitation, but also to unexpected, grand successes…
In “Warten auf Hollywood,” Frank Czerwinski, a film actor, eagerly awaits a phone call. But not just any call: He’s waiting for a call from Hollywood – or at least from his agent Daggi. And he hasn’t just been waiting since yesterday; it has been what feels like an eternity.
The two authors tell the story of how this waiting for that very call, and waiting in general, runs through his life, while Thomas Rudnick performs the approximately 70-minute piece.
The protagonist recounts his tests of patience and film rehearsals, his low points and his soaring successes – sometimes with a reflective conclusion, sometimes with a triumphant smile on his lips. As a true Brandenburg native, Frank wears his heart on his sleeve and allows his audience to share in a mix of cheeky short remarks and dry humor about the most significant moments of his life, such as the top roles and flop roles in his profession, his first car, his great love Mandy, and how he experienced the turning point in history. But see for yourself how creative waiting can be!
“Warten auf Hollywood” is also a loving homage to the province – that barren space of deceleration and a slowed-down lifestyle somewhere around Berlin, somewhere between Hamburg, Stettin, and Dresden – and to its residents with their unique charm. It doesn’t always have to be lavish gestures, lengthy explanations, or expansive conversations; often, two-word sentences are enough to understand each other perfectly. Don’t believe it? Then experience Frank in top form during a reenactment of a verbal sparring match with his buddy Manni. “It has to be…”
