Theodor Fontane:
A Life in the Mark Brandenburg
with Barbara Kleyboldt and Rüdiger Treappmann - Acting and Recitation
From one of his famous travelogues, the Wanderungen durch die Mark Brandenburg was created in 1861. Alongside this, his autobiography: “From 20 to 30” serves as the guideline
for the evening.
With Theodor Fontane, we close the circle of great German ballad poets, which began with
Goethe and Schiller and continues with Fontane.
Fontane is, alongside Schiller and Goethe, one of the most significant German-speaking poets.
Fontane became famous through his novels, first and foremost Effi Briest, but also through
ballads such as The Bridge on the Tay, John Maynard, and Herr von Ribbeck auf Ribbeck im Havelland.
His ballads and excerpts from Effi Briest are the focus of our Fontane
evening.
Barbara Kleyboldt slips into the role of Fontane as the first-person narrator, Rüdiger Trappmann in the role of the storyteller.
