Bulli Abenteuer „360° Deutschland“ - Eine Entdeckungsreise durchs Land
What defines Germany? Today, we often know more about Bali, Brooklyn, or the Seychelles than about Höri, Bliesgau, and Oberlausitz. That’s why the renowned GEO and National Geographic photographer Peter Gebhard set off on a very special journey of discovery: with his vintage Bulli “Erwin,” he traveled around Germany – 16,000 kilometers, along borders, coastlines, contrasts, and stories.
Peter Gebhard shows Germany as few know it: raw and poetic, surprising and deeply human. With a keen eye for details, humor, respect, and the curiosity of a true explorer. In his new live report, projector and stage transform into a campfire, and Peter Gebhard becomes the storyteller who, with heart, wit, and depth, takes his audience on a journey – to a Germany that many have never seen before.
Included in his luggage: fascinating images, moving video clips of remarkable encounters with people who shape the face of this country – direct, touching, authentic.
On Fehmarn, Peter meets the legendary Charchulla twins, pioneers of windsurfing, 86 years old and still full of energy. In Eisenhüttenstadt, he experiences the raw power of industry: laborers pouring molten metal into molds – an archaic world, in blazing light. In Duisburg, at an old refreshment hall, he encounters real Ruhrpott originals, third-generation German-Turks living between two cultures: too foreign for some, too German for others – but firmly rooted in the region.
In Allgäu, he meets Alfred, the last maker of bell straps, who philosophizes about life with wisdom and subtle humor, about simple living and the loss of traditions. At the Czech border, he meets Lydia, who returned to the Ore Mountains with her Kenyan husband and two children to the place she left 20 years ago due to lack of prospects. At the Weser estuary, Peter sails into the North Sea with crab fishermen, helps with the grape harvest at Kaiserstuhl, chats with an old countess in the Ardennes, meets families in the Rhineland who are successfully fighting against the bucket wheel excavators of brown coal...
In the Ruhr area, he dives into the vibrant metropolis of highways, steel, and inland ports – a contrast to the vastness of Emsland. There, Bulli “Erwin” becomes friends with old double-decker planes, and Peter spontaneously embarks on a vintage air trip to the East Frisian Islands. In the end, he returns to the north, to the wonderland of the Halligen in the Wadden Sea, enveloped by the eternal rhythm of the tides – a silent, powerful finale to a journey that is a glimpse into the soul of our country and allows one to feel the value of home.
“360° Deutschland” is a fascinating, touching journey of discovery through our incredibly diverse country – with surprising encounters, deep insights, and the realization: one doesn’t have to travel far to be amazed. One only needs to look closely. Happiness often lies right at one's doorstep.
