Jan Liebermann (*2005) received his first piano lessons at the age of seven and began playing the organ at the age of twelve. He was a young student of Prof. Gerhard Gnann at the Hochschule für Musik in Mainz and Prof. Carsten Wiebusch at the Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst in Frankfurt am Main. In parallel, he received piano lessons in the master class of Prof. Dr. Lev Natochenny. He is currently studying at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater München with Prof. Martin Sander.
Jan Liebermann is the 1st prize winner of the Northern Ireland International Organ Competition 2024, 1st national prize winner in the solo organ category at the "Jugend musiziert" competition 2021 with the maximum score, 2nd prize winner of the International Organ Competition Wuppertal 2023, and prize winner of the “International Young Organist Competition Moscow” 2020, the first International Organ Competition Deidesheim 2020, and the Concours International d’Orgue de Dudelange 2023. Additionally, Jan is a special prize winner of the Deutsche Stiftung Musikleben. He also received a scholarship from the Jürgen-Ponto-Stiftung Berlin in 2021. In the autumn of 2025, he received the Förderpreis Deutschlandfunk, becoming the first organist since the award's inception in 1998, which was presented to him during the Musikfest Bremen.
His concert activities have taken him to significant centers of organ music, including the Berlin Philharmonie, Müpa Budapest, the Essen Philharmonie, the Cathedral of Pisa, the Freiberg Cathedral, the Paderborn Cathedral, the Limburg Cathedral, the Essen Cathedral, the Münster Cathedral, the Soest Cathedral, the Freiburg Minster, and St. Michaelis Hamburg. International concert tours also took him to England, where he performed at York Minster, Westminster Abbey, Salisbury Cathedral, King’s College Cambridge, Liverpool Anglican Cathedral, Exeter Cathedral, Truro Cathedral, and Southwark Cathedral in London.
Additionally, Jan Liebermann has appeared at numerous renowned organ cycles, including the "Dresden Music Festival," "Musica Bayreuth," the "Hamburg Organ Summer," the "International Organ Concerts Erfurt," the "International Hill Organ Days Berlin," the "Victoria Hall Organ Proms" in Hanley, and the "Himmeroder Organ Summer." Furthermore, Jan Liebermann has been featured in the concert series “Hörprobe” of the radio station Deutschlandfunk Kultur and has been portrayed due to his musical achievements in radio (including BR-Klassik, SWR, hr2 Kultur, hr-info, radio3, Deutschlandfunk Kultur) and television programs (including rbb24 Abendschau, Landesschau Rheinland-Pfalz).
In the spring of 2024, Jan Liebermann attracted attention in the organ world when he performed all six trio sonatas by Johann Sebastian Bach from memory at several public concerts. For his artistic achievements and commitment, he was awarded the Culture Promotion Prize 2024 by the Rotary Club Mainz. Just a year later, he focused on performing all Trois Préludes et Fugues by Marcel Dupré, which he also presented from memory multiple times in public concerts.
In 2025, Jan Liebermann was featured multiple times at the Berlin Philharmonie. On the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the Schuke organ there, he made his celebrated solo debut and performed in another concert with the solo flutist of the Berlin Philharmonic, Emmanuel Pahud. Furthermore, he gave concerts on three evenings with the Berlin Philharmonic under the direction of Andris Nelsons.
