Friedrichsbau Varieté Theater

A feeling. A decade. A show.

The bass pulses in the belly, the air is filled with a thrilling sense of freedom. Heartbeats on: We catapult the audience right into the colorful 90s.

Between Gameboy, Love Parade, and first big dreams, “Legendary: THE 90‘s” celebrates a decade that shaped society. Ironically, cheeky, and full of heart, spectacular acrobatics, energetic dance moves, and powerful live singing merge into a show that evokes memories and creates new ones. To the biggest hits of the 90s, bodies defy gravity, iconic sounds tell stories of love, new beginnings, rebellion, and the lifestyle of a generation. Sometimes loud, sometimes quiet – always intense, always real.

“Legendary: THE 90‘s” is more than nostalgia: It is an energetic love letter to a time that remains a cult to this day – wild, witty, and wonderfully crazy.

Step into the mysterious world of “I will find you”, where illusion and reality become one. Let yourself be enchanted by thrilling magic and the fascinating story about love and trust. Be there now!

Allow yourself to be taken into a deep, hidden world full of secrets, where the fascinating story of love and trust is brought to life through the power of magic. Against an impressive backdrop from another time, “I will find you” tells of the lonely painter who is on the trail of magical forces and yearns for depth in his unchanging life.

Believing there is more between heaven and earth than the human eye can grasp, he is in constant search of fulfilling his longings and wishes. He is only faintly aware that an angel accompanies him, but he increasingly perceives this invisible presence until he can no longer distinguish between dream and reality, vision and truth, his world and the other world.

The power of pure love ultimately redeems him through the appearance of the angel, who seems to fulfill all the painter's desires and teaches him the most important experience of life. However, his love and trust are put to a tough test…

Exciting and touching at the same time, illusion and reality merge into an unforgettable experience!

In "Rhapsody in Magic", two extraordinary artists come together: the trained dancer Jaana Felicitas, German champion of magic, and Nikolai Striebel, European champion of magic. Together, they create a world of illusion, dance, and fine humor. Poetic, surprising, and experienceable for all ages.

Their show thrives on strong imagery, playful lightness, and moments that don't need explaining but are simply enjoyed. Not a loud spectacle, but magic that is approachable and touches the heart. Awarded the Baden-Württemberg Small Art Prize 2023, this duo has been captivating audiences on national and international stages for years.

Annegret Cratz is considered one of Germany's most renowned accordionists. On this evening, the most French of all instruments will become a full orchestra through her. With classics like Milord, Padam Padam, and L’Accordeoniste, rarities such as Kurt Weill's Youkali, and her own arrangement of Evi Niessner's title song La Nuit, the whole world for this blue hour will become a longing place called Paris.

And when the violin of Dimi Rey jubilantly, mournfully, cries, or laughs, so stylishly, virtuously, and masterfully like no other, one is swept away helplessly in the sea of sounds and feelings – and the lovers tenderly tell each other about love, throughout the entire night.

In LA NUIT DE PARIS – AUF DEN SPUREN DER PIAF, Evi Niessner dives into the world of Piaf and especially illuminates the darker sides of the city of love with all its secrets, abysses, and in all its luminous beauty. An evening at the highest artistic and musical level, presented with playful and nonchalant ease – just like the night of Paris!

Exactly this fire brings the ensemble TANGO UNLIMITED to the stage. The six-member formation, consisting of violin, saxophone, accordion, piano, double bass, and drums, takes its audience into the world of great tango stories: sometimes tender and full of longing, sometimes wild and rhythmic, always full of intensity.

The program spans a wide arc from the great classics of Argentine tango through exciting tango nuevo to surprising excursions into jazz and film music. This creates musical episodes of searching and finding, of loving and living – multi-faceted and emotional. A special highlight is the dance couple Martina Beilharz & Daniel Canuti, who bring the tango to life on stage with selected pieces: sensual, energetic, and full of elegance.

“Boundless tango passion from Buenos Aires to Paris – Tango Unlimited offers tango melodies at a world-class level in all facets – musically and dancing.” (Lauffener Bote)

An evening full of passion, rhythm, and elegance – a celebration for the heart, ears, and eyes. Those who love tango must not miss this concert; those who do not yet love tango will afterwards!

Markus Herzer – piano & direction
