The Udo Jürgens Story - Tour 2024
"A must for all Udo fans!"
2024 is the Udo Jürgens year. On September 30, 2024, the music legend would have celebrated his 90th birthday. On December 21 '24, his death anniversary marks the tenth anniversary, and also in December '24, exactly 50 years have passed since the first release of the timeless hit "Griechischer Wein" (Greek Wine).
The fact that Udo Jürgens - his life and his music - are unforgettable is also evidenced by the over 100,000 spectators who have experienced and acclaimed "The Udo Jürgens Story" with Gabriela Benesch and Alex Parker since autumn 2019. 2023 was the show's successful year. Over 120 tour locations were on the schedule - one of the longest tours this year. In 2024, around 100 guest performances will once again be on the tour schedule in Germany and Austria.
"Die Udo Jürgens Story - His Life, His Love, His Music" is a sensitive, entertaining, and extraordinary homage to the grand seigneur of German entertainment music. The multiple award-winning film and theater actress Gabriela Benesch and Alex Parker, currently the most well-known and probably the best Udo Jürgens interpreter, lead their guests on a musical journey through evergreens such as "Merci Cherie," "Ein ehrenwertes Haus" (A House With Honor), "Ich war noch niemals in New York" (I've never been to New York), "Griechischer Wein," "Aber bitte mit Sahne" (But Please with Cream), "Mit 66 Jahren" (At 66), to "5 Minuten vor 12" (5 Minutes to 12), "Mein Ziel" (My Goal), and many other hits. The brilliant duo Benesch and Parker, under the direction of Erich Furrer, provide an evening full of memories and surprises that will make every Udo Jürgens fan's heart leap.
Udo Jürgens was a free spirit in every way. Musically, he moved effortlessly between schlager, chanson, jazz, and pop music. In terms of content, he was committed to peace, freedom, and above all, love, and was not afraid to be a bit controversial. With 61 albums and over 400 single placements in the charts, around 1,000 composed songs, and more than 100 million records sold, he is one of the most successful solo artists worldwide.
"The Udo Jürgens Story" is the brainchild of Vienna-born actress Gabriela Benesch, who personally knew Udo Jürgens, and her husband, Swiss director, actor, author, and producer Erich Furrer. With humor and great empathy, she recounts stories and anecdotes from the personal records of the great entertainer. She takes the audience on a journey, starting from Udo Jürgens' childhood to his old age, providing deep insights into his development and his work - all under the motto: "His Life, His Love, His Music."
The narrative insights are musically accompanied by singer and pianist Alex Parker. Parker is rightfully considered the most famous Udo Jürgens interpreter. In the style of his great idol, Parker artfully creates a highly emotional atmosphere between himself and his audience in a sympathetic way. Udo Jürgens himself confirmed how close to the original Parker is when he heard him sing in a hotel lobby when Parker was just 19 years old.
Director and producer is Vienna-born and Switzerland-raised Erich Furrer. Furrer studied at the University of Music and Theater in Bern, Switzerland, and has been working for many years as an actor, director, cabaret artist, author, and producer. He writes and produces musicals, has enjoyed success with new adaptations of Shakespeare's works, and has been awarded prizes for his acting in numerous theater productions.
