“One piano. One club. One moment.”
When a concert leaves the concert hall and instead takes place right in the middle of a club, something special happens. That's exactly what the audience experienced last fall at Docks: The first evening of this extraordinary concert series “Piano Unplugged” turned into a real event. The Docks club was full, the atmosphere electrifying – and at some point, no one could stand still anymore. People who usually dance to electronic beats were carried away by a grand piano on stage. Classical music transformed into an experience that resembled more of a club night than a traditional concert.
Now this format is entering its next round.
At the center is pianist and composer Leon Gurvitch, who is usually heard on the stages of international concert halls – including Carnegie Hall and Elbphilharmonie. For this special project, he deliberately steps away from the classical framework and brings the piano to where it might be least expected: right in the middle of the club.
The Docks Club will once again become a stage – with a grand piano in the center and an audience that is moving, holding a drink, and experiencing the music very directly. The bar remains open, the atmosphere relaxed and lively. There are no classical concert rules here: no dress code, no obligation to applaud, no stiff etiquette – just music that arises in the moment and resonates directly in the now.
Together with a renowned DJ and special guests, a sound space emerges between concert and club night. At the piano, Leon Gurvitch plays his own compositions, film music, and classical works – motives that are captured live, expanded, and woven together with electronic beats. Sometimes hypnotic, sometimes powerful, sometimes surprisingly intimate, a musical dialogue develops that blurs the boundaries between classical, improvisation, and club sound.
It is precisely this mixture that makes the evening so special: an unusual place for an unusual repertoire, an emotional connection through familiar melodies from film and classical music, and an artist who is approachable, present, and right in the midst of it all. What emerges is not a classical concert in the conventional sense, but a musical experience that one feels.
Everyone who is curious is invited. Especially those who want to experience classical music in a different way – without fear of crossing thresholds, without fixed rules, but with open ears and the willingness to be surprised. All those who are eager for an evening where sound, atmosphere, and energy combine into something new.
Because sometimes, all it takes is one piano, one club, and one moment when everything comes together.
