The Matthias Höfs Brass Project unites some of the most outstanding brass players of their generation. The initiator is the internationally renowned trumpeter Matthias Höfs, professor of trumpet at the Hamburg University of Music and Theatre, and a defining personality in the international brass scene for decades.
Alongside him, top musicians from leading orchestras perform. Together, they embody virtuosic joy of playing, tonal brilliance, and the vibrant tradition of European brass artistry.

The program bridges music from the early Baroque to the late Romantic period. The London musician John Baston published his "Concertos in Six Parts" in 1729, characterized by catchy melodies and clear harmonies. Johann Sebastian Bach also showcases great diversity of form in the second Partita; especially the festive Sinfonia invites rich ensemble arrangements. Early Baroque virtuosity is brought to life by Bartolomeo de Selma y Salaverde with his "Canzoni," published in Venice in 1638. The conclusion features music by Oskar Böhme, whose virtuosic trumpet works have only been rediscovered in recent times.

"It was like learning a new instrument." Originally developed as a solo project, he is expanding his machine setup for the Jazz-Fabrik with two notable musical companions. First is singer Maura, who has carved out a firm place for herself in the Berlin scene between soul and trip-hop. And joining her is trumpeter Joo Kraus, a well-known figure in the German scene, who has made a name for himself between jazz and drum’n’bass often alongside bassist Hellmut Hattler (Tab Two). The Karlsruhe saxophonist and bandleader Christian Steuber opens great doors with his new big band project and brings together the who's who of the South German big band scene into an astonishingly young, skilled, and joyfully exuberant formation. Matti Klein Soul Trio - Deep-Fried Contemporary Soul-Jazz

What is Soul? A captivating music style, some say. An overwhelming feeling, claim others. It is what makes us distinctive, states the English dictionaries. Each of these definitions applies to the Matti Klein Soul Trio, but the latter describes the essence of the trio founded in 2017 particularly well. For in the Matti Klein Soul Trio, three kindred spirits have come together in the name of groove, charting an independent path beyond the well-trodden paths of Hammond organ trios. At the center of the sonic events are the warm Wurlitzer sounds of band leader Matti Klein, who, with the funk-jazz formation Mo' Blow and the Brazilian yacht-pop heavyweight Ed Motta, has already graced the most important jazz clubs in New York, Tokyo, London, and Paris. The cozy deep tones of a 1973 Fender Rhodes Piano-Bass are a similar unique feature of the group, as is the precise use of sound effects by tenor saxophonist and bass clarinetist Lars Zander. Drummer André Seidel's elastic playing ensures that the trio's other specialty, the uncomplicated preference for Odd Meters, is literally accepted without question.

Prominent Soul gourmets like the BBC Radio legend Robert Elms or singer Max Mutzke swear by the trio's songs, in which vibrant Soul-Jazz and the instrumental Funk of The Meters or The Crusaders stand organically alongside Hip-Hop elements or spacey Post-Rock. And the media response to the band's previous albums and live shows (including Haiti, Finland, or a UK tour) speaks volumes. "That grooves immensely," judges Deutschlandfunk, while the British Jazzwise magazine states: "A new, smoking' hot twist on the much-loved organ trio format. They deserve to be huge everywhere!"

36 years touring worldwide, that's almost 5000 concerts. The BBs love their music and play the blues so skillfully that even the Americans tip their hats to this German band. With their mix of "Rhythm & Blues" and a touch of "Sixty Soul," they have built a fanbase around the globe. The band has received countless awards such as the "German Blues Award" and the title of "best blues band in Europe" from French music editors, their CD "Unique Taste" was awarded the prize of the German Record Critics.

Frontman Michael Arlt (vocals and harp) has long been part of the top league of European blues and soul singers. He is also a unique entertainer. His brother Andreas Arlt is an elegant stylist and is now considered an exceptional guitarist. With Fabian Fritz on piano and organ, the band was able to recruit another genius for their distinctive sound. Henning Hauerken (double bass and electric bass) and Andre Werkmeister (drums) deliver the unique drive and groove that you take home from the concert.
