On the occasion of the opening of DAS GLÜCK IST NICHT IMMER LUSTIG, Rirkrit Tiravanija invites chefs from the Berlin street food market and community gathering place Thaipark to share their favorite dishes and concerns with the visitors. Throughout the week, dishes from various regions of Thailand will be available to taste.
The term "demonstration" appears repeatedly in Rirkrit Tiravanija's practice in various meanings. It can refer to different forms of political assembly and actions, but it can also mean showing an interest or demonstrating a special talent. Thaipark, a popular food market and community gathering place in Berlin-Wilmersdorf, has been repeatedly threatened by displacement for years. Throughout the week, the chefs aim to present and offer dishes from the four regions of Thailand for visitors to try.
Thaipark initially began in 1992 as a picnic for German-Thai families who met for cooking and eating together in Preußenpark and is now regarded as a meeting point for the Southeast Asian community and a popular street food market. It is organized independently by the vendors in an association and has a large regular audience that consistently supports the event, which is threatened by displacement, during demonstrations and expressions of solidarity.
At the event, photo and video recordings may be created, in which you may be recognizable. By attending, you agree that these recordings may be used for the communication of the event or exhibition.
