Under the direction of guest conductor Takao Ukigaya, the Brandenburg State Orchestra Frankfurt will once again perform lively and captivating melodies to kick off the musical year, moderated by the always chatty Christine Hellert. Get ready for true "pop songs" of the classical light music literature such as the overtures to the operas "The Gypsy Baron" by Johann Strauss (son), "The Thieving Magpie", and "William Tell" by Gioacchino Rossini. Johann Strauss (father) dedicated his spectacular "Galop" op. 23b to the theme of "William Tell", which will also be heard, as well as the "Hungarian Rhapsody" No. 2 in a large orchestral version by Franz Liszt. The "Hungarian Dances" by Johannes Brahms were originally composed for piano duet. However, Brahms also wrote orchestral arrangements for some dances, which will also be performed at the New Year's Concert 2025. Mystischer Ton

Arvo Pärt is among the most performed living composers in the world. His fascinating mystical tonal language developed from initially neoclassical compositions to modern forms such as serialism and collage techniques, culminating in a bell-like triad, the "Tintinnabuli". The WKO presents two works by the Estonian master - "Orient & Occident" and "Fratres" - contrasting the highly emotional "Concerto Funebre" by Hartmann with the string serenade that combines Mozartian lightness and French elegance.

The Bruckner Akademie Orchestra meets twice a year for a concentrated rehearsal phase and subsequent concerts under the direction of conductor Jordi Mora. This year's Easter Academy program features the Violin Concerto by Pyotr I. Tchaikovsky (1840-1893), as well as the fifth symphony completed in 1937 by Dmitri Shostakovich (1906-1975), which the music world will remember on the 50th anniversary of his death in 2025. The soloist for the Violin Concerto is Joel Bardolet, who was trained at the Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya in Barcelona and at the Freiburg University of Music, receiving important impulses through long-term collaboration with Jordi Mora and numerous masterclasses. Bardolet is known for his innovative interpretations and exceptional technique. He is a member of the Trio Fortuny and a sought-after concertmaster and soloist in renowned ensembles.

Like the namesake amber ("Amber"), the new cello concerto by Roland Kunz is "polished memory with numerous inclusions" that spur the imagination; a world made of lines, rhythms, melodies, small motifs and figures, in which light refracts: lost in dreams, surreal, gentle, muted and warm – a time-lapse of eternity, orchestrated by Frank Zabel.

Mahler's "Song of the Night," on the other hand, is a world of extreme emotions and moods but with predominantly "cheerful, humorous content." "Here the nature bellows," lovers sing their serenade languidly, the dead dance their bizarre shadow dances.
