Das Tagebuch der Anne Frank - Premiere
DAS TAGEBUCH DER ANNE FRANK is the most famous diary in the world. Anne received it from her father as a gift for her 13th birthday in 1942; just a few days later, she and her family had to flee from the Gestapo. For two years, the Jewish Frank family hid in a secret annex in Amsterdam – in a cramped space and in constant fear of being discovered. In her diary, which she calls Kitty, the 13-year-old confides her feelings and thoughts: about life in hiding, everyday struggles, existential fears, and the longing for a life in freedom. But despite all her worries, Anne is also a completely normal teenager. She has conflicts with her mother, is annoyed with her sister Margot, and falls in love with 15-year-old Peter van Pels, who also lives in the secret annex with his family.
The diary entries end two years later – three days before Anne's arrest and deportation to the concentration camps Auschwitz and Bergen-Belsen, where she died shortly before the end of the war from typhus. On June 12, 2024, Anne Frank would have turned 95 years old. Director Diana Zöller and the ensemble, featuring Sarah Herrmann in the role of Anne Frank, sensitively bring the fate of the young Jewish girl to the stage, accompanied by live Yiddish music.
A piece of memory, a highly relevant topic that aims to awaken and make people vigilant against anti-Semitism and racism, directed equally at young people and adults.
