You have always wanted to take a look behind the scenes of the Rüsselsheim Theater? Then you now have the opportunity to do so at three dates. The curtain rises about 100 times a year at the Theater Rüsselsheim, and visitors can experience exciting and entertaining productions. During our tours, we offer you an extraordinary change of perspective, and you will learn everything you have always wanted to know about the theater. In addition to anecdotes and interesting facts about the history and the unique architecture of the building, you will gain exciting insights into the stage, light, and sound technology of the theater. You will climb over 10 floors in the stage area, allowing you to inspect all areas in front of, on, under, and above our main stage, from the sprinkler system and the technical equipment in the basement to the fly loft located 19 meters above the stage.

The participation fee including fees per person is 4.90 euros.
Booking is done through our ticket system.

*Not all individual stations are accessible by elevators, therefore, the tours are unfortunately not suitable for people with mobility limitations and wheelchair users, and you should also be free of vertigo.

The hr-Bigband tips its hat to Albert Mangelsdorff. For half a century, the world-famous trombonist was regarded as the most important ambassador of "Jazz made in Germany." His artistic legacy lives on after his death. In the jazz orchestral interpretation of his album "Trilogue," Nils Wogram shows, in the spirit of Albert, what sounds can be elicited from a trombone!

Whenever a wind instrument sounds like two, Albert Mangelsdorff's influence can be heard. His technique of being able to play chords through overtones on his instrument has long become standard for a good jazz trombonist. However, in the 1970s, it looked very different: the multi-voiced playing style, developed in the 19th century, had fallen into oblivion. With the help of this technique and his outstanding ability to improvise, Albert Mangelsdorff became the first trombonist to play entire concerts unaccompanied.

In Mangelsdorff's album "Trilogue," his soloist virtuosity meets the stylistic sounds of Jaco Pastorius' electric bass and the eruptive grooves of Alphonse Mouzon. In Jim McNeely's adaptation of this unique encounter at the Berlin Jazz Days in 1976, Nils Wogram conjures incredible tones from his instrument as a soloist. The sound of the entire Big Band creates a unique brilliance.

On this evening, there will also be a concert introduction with the soloist Nils Wogram, moderated by Stefan Müller at 7.15 pm (presented by hr INFO).

Experience the first part of the evening with Camille Saint-Saëns' zoological fantasy "Karneval der Tiere" as a cheerful musical-literary evening for adults and children aged 10 and above.
The composer would have loved to moderate the animal festivities himself, but unfortunately, he is unable to do so. Instead, he has written a humorous letter to the audience, which will be read by the well-known actor Rufus Beck. Beck presents and moderates the classic of the French composer Camille Saint-Saëns in a new form: captivating, humorous, and highly entertaining!
The texts have been contributed by the Italian star author Alessandro Baricco. In the musical part, more than a dozen vividly composed animal characters frolic, including proudly marching lions, wild donkeys, hilariously clucking chickens, cancan-dancing turtles, and many more. In the end, everyone gathers for a virtuosic potpourri finale, with which the work concludes, performed on two pianos.

In the second part of the evening, you will hear songs from Leonard Bernstein's West Side Story in an arrangement for 2 pianos as well as texts from Mark Twain: "A Stroll Through Europe."

For its 18th birthday, the Junges Ensemble am Theater Rüsselsheim has chosen an exciting fusion of classic acting and puppet theater. Under the direction of Richard Weber, who already led the ensemble in 2016 and is known as an actor, teacher, and former head of the Mainz Drama School e.V., Dirk Laucke's "Amy4Eva - on the impossibility of rock 'n' roll in places like Jerichow and so" will be presented. A young and fresh piece, originally a commissioned work for the State Theatre Darmstadt, which can most closely be compared to a road movie. Two teenage friends embark on a pilgrimage to Amy Winehouse’s grave in London to commemorate their deceased mutual friend Effe. Dirk Laucke, an award-winning playwright, studied dramatic writing at the University of the Arts Berlin and has written numerous plays that are performed at various stages throughout Germany.

Amy4Eva - Junges Ensemble am Theater Rüsselsheim

For its 18th birthday, the Junges Ensemble am Theater Rüsselsheim has chosen an exciting fusion of classic acting and puppet theater. Under the direction of Richard Weber, who already led the ensemble in 2016 and is known as an actor, teacher, and former head of the Mainz Drama School e.V., Dirk Laucke's "Amy4Eva - on the impossibility of rock 'n' roll in places like Jerichow and so" will be presented. A young and fresh piece, originally a commissioned work for the State Theatre Darmstadt, which can most closely be compared to a road movie. Two teenage friends embark on a pilgrimage to Amy Winehouse’s grave in London to commemorate their deceased mutual friend Effe. Dirk Laucke, an award-winning playwright, studied dramatic writing at the University of the Arts Berlin and has written numerous plays that are performed at various stages throughout Germany.

However, sometimes in life, it's not so easy to clearly determine our own standpoint. Neither emotionally nor politically or geographically. And sometimes the necessary means are also missing. Eva Karl Faltermeier finds out where we all want to be picked up, where the ride is going, and what it costs us. An amusing journey - through the twists and turns of life - where every second counts.
Eva Karl Faltermeier, born in 1983, is a single mother of two children and a trained journalist. With her first stage program "Es geht dahi", she convinced critics and audience alike. She was awarded the Senkrechtstarter Prize of the Bavarian Cabaret Prize, the Newcomer Prize of the Hessian Cabaret Prize, and the Prix Pantheon. The city of Regensburg honored her with the "Cultural Sponsorship Prize 2020". For the trained journalist, the greatest goal is to entertain with stories. Eva Karl Faltermeier was a blog author, and lecturer. She writes columns (Bayern2) and hosts her own indie interview podcast ("Es lafft") for which she received the Culture Prize of the Oberpfalz District in 2021.

"You only lose what you don't dare." (Bettina von Arnim)
History is written by men - at least this is the impression given by history books. Women only appear as secondary figures; or rather: in the context of famous men. Achievements by women have generally not only been ignored by male chroniclers - they were also achieved under difficult conditions: poor educational opportunities, limited career options, dependence on a spouse, health risks from frequent pregnancies, lack of public recognition. There could be many more reasons mentioned.
History told from a female perspective is presented in the quiet literary revue "Drei Frauen aus Deutschland". Two hundred years of German history - observed through the lives of three female writers and performed by the well-known actresses Barbara Auer, Ann-Kathrin Kramer, and Claudia Michelsen.
Erika Mann, who with her ensemble "Pfeffermühle", her sharp-tongued political cabaret in Zurich, caused nightly battles with Swiss NS supporters, transformed throughout her life from a pleasure-seeking bohemian to a politically thinking and active woman. Similarly provocative were the performances of the great poet Else Lasker-Schüler, a Jewish literary figure expelled from the German Empire, decades earlier. And Bettina von Arnim, née Brentano, provoked the bourgeois and aristocratic establishment of her time with her social accusations and her commitment to the poor and oppressed - at the same time, she engaged in witty conversations with famous contemporaries in the Berlin salon of Rahel Varnhagen.

Young Music Hessen gGmbH

The State Youth Choir (LJC) Hessen was founded in 2008 on the initiative of the Hessian State Government, and has since united talented singers between the ages of 16 and 27 from all over Hessen. The choir's over 80 members, who were selected through statewide auditions, come together in changing line-ups two to three times a year for multi-day working phases and rehearsal days.
Since April 2023, Axel Pfeiffer has been the Artistic Director of the State Youth Choir Hessen. Additionally, the choir collaborates regularly with guest conductors from both Germany and abroad. The working phases are accompanied by individual vocal training sessions. Since its inception, the choir's two vocal coaches, Prof. Katharina Kutsch and Claudia Ramroth, have continuously contributed to the vocal development of the singers. The sacred and secular repertoire developed during the rehearsal phases ranges from Renaissance works to romantic and contemporary compositions as well as demanding pop arrangements. The working phases are usually concluded with one to two concerts.
Since January 2022, the choir has been one of four state youth ensembles under the sponsorship of the state-owned Young Music Hessen gGmbH. It is funded by the Hessian Ministry of Science and Art. The patron is the Hessian Prime Minister Boris Rhein.

What do a toddler and the average head of state have in common? Are there presidents who might throw a tantrum right in the middle of a supermarket? Or yell angrily until they get what they want? If you squint your eyes and see a talking toddler sitting next to an adult man in a suit babbling nonsense, you will hardly notice a difference. Of course, one of them has a say in everything, while the other has to do everything he is told.
BullyBully gives the audience a glimpse into the clash of two world powers at a Duplo level, who eventually learn to meet in the middle; politics in kindergarten and childishness among serious and powerful adults. It is a children’s musical like West Side Story, presenting us with two performers, many songs, funny arguments, a bit of bickering, and ultimately a happy ending.
