Queerikone Greta Garbo als König*in Christina von Schweden, lesbar als trans*, nicht-binär, lesbisch oder bi. Das Drehbuch stammt von Salka Viertel, damals Greta Garbos Geliebte, die in den 1950er-Jahren während der Kommunistenjagd in Hollywood auf die schwarze Liste gesetzt wurde. Trotz der Hollywood-Konventionen avancierte der Film zu einem Klassiker des queeren Kinos. Die berühmte Kussszene zwischen Christina und ihrer Hofdame Ebba wäre nur ein Jahr später der Filmzensur zum Opfer gefallen. Legendär sind Garbos Worte als Christina: „I shall not die an old maid! I shall die a bachelor“ (Ich sterbe nicht als alte Jungfer – ich sterbe als Junggeselle!).

Queer icon Greta Garbo as the queer icon Queen Christina of Sweden, who could be interpreted as trans*, non-binary, lesbian or bisexual. The film is based on a screenplay by Salka Viertel, Greta Garbo’s lover at the time, who was blacklisted in Hollywood during the McCarthy political witch-hunts of the 1950s. Despite Hollywood conventions, the film went on to become a classic of queer cinema. Königin ohne Land - Lesung

Vor 400 Jahren wurde Christina (oder Kristina) von Schweden geboren. Mitten im Dreißigjährigen Krieg, als Sechsjährige, verlor sie ihren Vater König Gustav Adolf II. von Schweden und trat bald dessen Nachfolge
an. Doch sie zog sich mit 27 Jahren freiwillig vom Thron zurück und ging ins römische Exil.
Die Germanistin und Theaterwissenschaftlerin Jutta Jacobi widmete dieser ungewöhnlichen Frau ihr neuestes
Buch „Königin ohne Land. Kristina von Schweden“. Auf der Insel Usedom, deren Landesherrin die Königin war, stellt sie es vor.

Jung war sie auf den Thron gelangt, jung dankte sie auch ab: Christina von Schweden, für einige Jahre auch Landesherrin der Insel Usedom, kam vor genau 400 Jahren zur Welt und war zu ihrer Zeit eine vielbeachtete Frau. Gelehrte und Diplomaten verglichen sie mit Pallas Athene, der griechischen Göttin der Weisheit. Christina konnte reiten und fechten, war in den Wissenschaften bewandert und liebte die Musik. Nach ihrer Abdankung und Übersiedlung nach Rom machte sie den Palazzo Riario zu einem musikalischen Zentrum Europas; Arcangelo Corelli trat 1677 in ihre Hofkapelle ein und widmete ihr 1681 sein Opus 1. Hier wird sie vorgestellt: mit eigenen Briefen und Tagebüchern, Zeugnissen von Diplomaten und der Musik, die sie selbst hörte – zum Klingen gebracht vom mehrfach preisgekrönten Ensemble NeoBarock (künstlerische Leitung: Maren Ries, einst Geigerin bei Reinhard Goebels Musica Antiqua Köln) und der Schauspielerin Alexandra Lowygina.

Als sie die trans* Frau Fantasy kennenlernen, scheinen zwei Welten aufeinanderzuprallen. Fantasys Wohnung mutet fast märchenhaft an: viel Pink, eine Menge Blumen und Rosentee aus kleinen, verzierten Teetassen.
Während vor allem Mihrije von Fantasy fasziniert ist, beginnt für alle drei eine Zeit der Selbstfindung, die auch ihre Freundschaft herausfordert.

The fact that they don’t really live up to the expectations of those around them is something they experience, not only within their families. When they meet Fantasy, a trans* woman, two worlds seem to collide. Fantasy’s apartment feels almost like something out of a fairy tale: lots of pink, plenty of flowers, and rose tea served in small, ornate teacups. While Mihrije, in particular, is fascinated by Fantasy, a period of self-discovery
