Von Jazz, Soul zu Club Sounds - Vergangenheit, Gegenwart, Zukunft
As part of the Jazz & Classical Days Tübingen, a style-defining sound returns: With a new edition of the legendary series Future Sounds of Jazz, the focus is on the next generation of innovative jazz and club artists – and on a musical legacy that continues to resonate today.
For this special evening, we welcome Michael Rütten – one of the most important protagonists of this movement. For decades, he has shaped the scene as a DJ, journalist, and radio host. His weekly show “soulsearching,” which has been broadcast on Radio X Frankfurt for 29 years, has become a cult classic and an expression of his musical philosophy: genre-open, passionate, and always committed to the groove.
Growing up with soul, jazz, funk, R&B, and pop, Rütten early on developed the desire to share music and bring people together. This thought runs through all his activities – whether in clubs, at international festivals, or as an author.
His DJ sets follow a clear principle: The tune matters, not the genre. Inspired by the energy of legendary clubs like Paradise Garage, he connects jazz, soul, boogie, deep house, afro, and more into a dense, often improvised flow – mostly on vinyl, always with a sense for atmosphere and moment.
Together with Michael Reinboth and Compost Records, he recently curated the 16th edition of “Future Sounds of Jazz” and continues its influence into the present. His performance on Saturday, October 24, in Tübingen, is an exclusive stop – an evening that unites the past, present, and future on the dance floor.
Michael will be supported and accompanied on his musical journey by DJs Bobby Mhark and Emanuela De Luca.
