The audience takes their seats in the midst of the action: at the tables of the legendary Roman Café, that infamous artists' café on Ku’damm in 1920s Berlin. Here, there are arguments, writings, love, and dreams. Musicians, writers, and artists are battling for ideas, fame, and the right line at the right moment.
Together, the spectators experience a single day – a colorful, vibrant day full of freedoms, wildness, but also poverty and fragmentation at the peak of the Weimar Republic, which is already beginning to crumble. For outside, just a few steps away, the street battles between the NSDAP and KPD announce the end. However, inside, something new is emerging: We witness the rise of a young talent in the poets' sky, the rise from nobody to somebody.
The Herxheim venue transforms completely for this: Where the stage usually is, the café spreads out. The audience sits between the tables as the waiters swirl through the room – and remember. That one day, that special day when everything seemed possible.
