"What sets Miriam Hanika apart is the oboe. In popular music, the instrument is usually used decoratively. Hanika, on the other hand, places it at the emotional center of her songs and uses its melancholic, breathing sound to express feelings for which words sometimes are not enough. This creates music that hovers between chanson, chamber music, and modern classical, without fully assigning itself to any of these worlds.
Her artistic stance has something unmistakably European about it and is reminiscent of the tradition of café poets and chansonniers who understood that melancholy and beauty often coexist side by side.

Miriam Hanika's music has received several awards. In 2024, she received the support prize for young singer-songwriters from the Hanns Seidel Foundation, and in 2021, the music scholarship from the City of Munich. With the Dandelion Quintet, she won the first prize at the international Ars Ventus competition for chamber music in 2019. Her second album "Louise" (2021) was nominated for the German Record Critics’ Award.
