The Elton Song Project
A Tribute to Elton John
The world hits by Elton John - Daniel, Don't let the Sun go down on me, Sorry seems to be the hardest Word, Crocodile Rock, Don't go breaking my heart, Blue Eyes, I'm Still Standing, Sad Songs, Nikita, and Sacrifice to name just a few, are well known and everyone can sing along.
Sir Elton John is one of the most successful pop musicians in history with more than 550 million records sold. With the new version of Candle in the Wind, he not only paid tribute to the late Lady Diana in 1997 - the song became the best-selling single of all time with 37 million copies sold.
Elton John released his first album Empty Sky in 1969. But it was his second album Elton John with the hit Your Song that brought him success. After that, Elton John churned out albums almost like on an assembly line. In 1973, his seventh studio album Goodbye Yellow Brick Road was released - and with over 30 million copies sold, it is one of his most successful albums. The double album includes, among others, the original version of Candle in the Wind - originally a tribute to Norma Jean, alias Marilyn Monroe.
Throughout the 1970s, Elton John landed one hit after another worldwide, including titles like Daniel, Don't let the Sun go down on me, Someone saved my Life tonight, and Sorry seems to be the hardest Word - timeless ballads. But also rock songs became hits for Elton John, such as Crocodile Rock, Philadelphia Freedom, or Don't go breaking my heart in a duet with Kiki Dee.
Even in the 1980s, Elton John continued his success. Songs like Blue Eyes, I’m Still Standing, Sad Songs, Nikita, and Sacrifice continued the wave and New Romantic influences on the charts. By then, he had already risen to become one of the most successful musicians of all time.
In 1992, Elton John made a successful comeback after a serious illness with the album The One, which sold more than 16 million copies. One of his biggest successes in the 1990s is the soundtrack to the Disney movie The Lion King (1994) with the hit single "Circle of Life." Elton John received an Oscar for the title song Can you feel the Love tonight from the soundtrack.
Elton John is one of the most successful artists of all time with countless timeless world hits throughout his unparalleled career as a musician, songwriter, and singer.
