Founded in Mannheim in 2007, the La Folia Barockorchester (shortened as LFBO) is now one of the most exciting ensembles in the early music scene. With intelligence and creative instinct, the musicians of the LFBO embark on a quest for the original sound. Their aim is the vivid and expressive performance of instrumental music from the 17th and 18th centuries, with the orchestra performing in various ensemble configurations - from consort to full orchestra. Through the high level of playing from each individual musician, they succeed in bringing astonishing transparency and expressiveness to the music. Stylistically, the LFBO is dedicated to historically informed performance practice: always keeping the authenticity of a piece in mind, they transpose it to the present time – ensuring that the music remains vibrant. Since 2011, the ensemble has been the "Orchestra in Residence" of the city of Schwetzingen, thereby receiving a new artistic home in the city's palace. One of the residency's focal points is the rediscovery and performance of regional court music from the 18th century. For this purpose, the LFBO closely collaborates with the "Südwestdeutsche Hofmusik" research center, also based in Schwetzingen, which reconstructs the performance material in addition to extensive research on the works. The results of this cooperation are regularly presented to the public in the concert series "Fascination Court Music" in the Mozart Hall of the Schwetzingen Palace. "Simply Baroque!" is the LFBO's own concert series at Schwetzingen Palace. Here, the orchestra delves into the diverse repertoire of European Baroque music. Each concert features an internationally renowned soloist. Thus, the ensemble is delighted to welcome Juliane Banse, Jan Vogler, Dorothee Oberlinger, Julia Schröder, Maurice Steger, and Reinhold Friedrich in the 2011/12 season. In July 2011, the La Folia Barockorchester, along with soprano Simone Kermes, performed a concert at Bellevue Palace in Berlin upon the invitation of the Federal President Christian Wulff, on the occasion of the President's annual summer party. The official partner of the La Folia Barockorchester is EnBW.

His mother was a well-known concert singer, so Thilo Martinho's concert and stage life actually began in the months before his birth. At the age of 7, he started playing the piano, at 14 the bass, and later the drums. When he was 19, a friend gave him a guitar... Three years later, he gave his first concerts as a guitarist. Shortly thereafter, Thilo was active in the German and European club scene, had initial performances at folk festivals, and eventually played 80 to 100 concerts a year. The music he played on acoustic steel-string guitars at that time could be described as instrumental folk-rock. Despite increasing success with this music, one thing always left him internally dissatisfied: the limited ability to "shape sound" on steel-string guitars, to bring the strings to "sing". In 1985, a concert with Paco de Lucia brought the long-awaited revelation. Thilo switched to the nylon-string guitar and started all over again, delving intensively into the world of classical and flamenco guitar. Soon after, he moved to Spain, to Andalusia, and lived as a flamenco guitarist for years in Seville and Càdiz. In 1995, there was a profound and life-changing turning point in Thilo's life: after a genetically related brain hemorrhage and subsequent surgery, Thilo spent a long time in hospitals and eventually sat semi-paralyzed in a wheelchair. According to medical prognoses, he had to expect never to be able to walk properly again. Regarding the guitar, there was no hope given: the motor skills of the right half of the body were lost. In the following years, which he would not want to miss by any means, Thilo learned invaluable lessons, also learned to fully heal again. And: He started to sing! And in the shadow of the voice, the guitar came (and comes) back in small steps. The Spanish and Latino world, its mentality, way of life and expression have not only left traces in Thilo Martinho, they have remained an inner home, a truth. That's why today his repertoire consists largely of Spanish and Spanish-speaking Latin music. Another large part of his program consists of Brazilian, Portuguese-language Bossa Nova. However, what is most important to him are his own pieces: songs with English, but increasingly with German (!) lyrics. And the fact that these songs fit well into the multilingual overall picture is partially due to the fact that Thilo Martinho does not "simply play through" his program, but always tries to bring the audience closer to the essence of the "music of the South".
