For almost 800 years, the old Barbarossa town has been located in the center of the Holy Roman Empire. Important transportation routes and trade roads intersect in the city, bringing people and influences from all regions of Europe and the then-known world to Gelnhausen every day. The farmers Traudel, the founder, and Beda, the cultivator, live and work amid the colorful hustle and bustle and seek their happiness in the heart of the empire. Accompany the two and experience the joys and worries of two poor, yet still cheerful, peasant women.

Not only for children, a unique work of art has been created at the Gelnhausen Museum: the walk-in ear takes visitors on a small expedition into the interior of our bodies.
Through a giant ear shell, children and the young at heart can crawl through the ear canal - or comfortably enter through a door - and explore the middle ear. It is easy to imagine how Philipp Reis, over 150 years ago, came up with the idea of building an apparatus that transmits the human voice over long distances with his small wooden ear model.

Meeting point:

In the sewing workshop, children (minimum age 8 years) and adults learn the cultural technique of sewing in small groups. Instruction in sewing with the sewing machine, as well as hand sewing techniques and a focus on the careful use of resources (upcycling), are offered every Tuesday between 3:00 PM and 5:00 PM at the KuH.
