Around 100,000 spectators have been enthusiastic about "The Udo Jürgens Story" since its premiere in autumn 2019. 2023 was the show's successful year. Despite all crises, over 120 tour venues were on the schedule – one of the longest tours this year. In 2024, there will be around 100 performances in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland on the tour plan again.
"The Udo Jürgens Story – His Life, His Love, His Music" is a sensitive, entertaining, and extraordinary tribute to the grand seigneur of German entertainment music. The multiple-award-winning film and theater actress Gabriela Benesch and Alex Parker, currently the most famous and probably best Udo Jürgens interpreter, take their guests on a musical journey from evergreens like "Merci Cherie," through "Ein ehrenwertes Haus," "Ich war noch niemals in New York," "Griechischer Wein," "Aber bitte mit Sahne," "Mit 66 Jahren" to "5 Minuten vor 12," "Mein Ziel," and many other hits. The brilliant duo Benesch and Parker, under the direction of Erich Furrer, provide an evening full of memories and surprises, making every Udo Jürgens fan's heart beat faster.
Udo Jürgens was a free spirit in every respect. Musically, he moved effortlessly between schlager, chanson, jazz, and pop music. In terms of content, he was committed to peace, freedom, and above all love, and was not afraid to stand out. With 61 albums and over 400 singles in the charts, around 1,000 composed songs, and more than 100 million records sold, he is one of the most successful solo artists worldwide.
"The Udo Jürgens Story" is the idea of Vienna-born actress Gabriela Benesch and her husband, Swiss director, actor, author and producer Erich Furrer. Gabriela Benesch has been a close friend of the family since Udo Jürgens' lifetime.
With humor and a lot of empathy, she recounts stories and anecdotes from the personal writings of the great entertainer. She takes the audience on a journey, starting in Udo Jürgens' childhood up to his old age, granting deep insights into his career and his work – following the motto: "His life, his love, his music."
The narrative insights are musically accompanied by singer and pianist Alex Parker. Parker is not without reason considered the most famous Udo Jürgens interpreter. In the style of his great idol, Parker knows how to create a highly emotional atmosphere between himself and his audience in a sympathetic manner. Udo Jürgens personally confirmed how close he was to the original when he heard the then 19-year-old Alex Parker sing in a hotel lobby.
Director and co-producer is Erich Furrer, born in Vienna and raised in Switzerland. Furrer studied at the University of Music and Theater in Bern/Switzerland and has been working for many years as an actor, director, cabaret artist, author, and producer. He writes and produces musicals, has celebrated successes with new interpretations of Shakespeare's works, and has been awarded prizes for his acting in numerous theater productions.
