Cabaret above the beltline

The world has changed. Supposed certainties of the past no longer hold true today. This also applies to the notion of "opposites attract". If the statement ever held any truth, we have completely lost the ability to even engage with what is opposite. And so, we curl up in the protective blanket of our own infallibility and retreat into the spooning position of our own worldview.

And this is where the cabaret artist Jens Neutag steps in and fights for 90 minutes in the name of reason. He explains to the old white man that "woke" is not an Asian stir-fry dish and to the young urban bohemian that minority protection automatically ends where the majority opposes it. For a world with more knowledge than opinion, because humans often have surprisingly strong opinions but alarmingly little knowledge.

1 - Flamenco Gala - Compañia Leonor Moro & Augustin de la Fuente
This ensemble has many fans worldwide and will thrill the Darmstadt audience with its spectacular performance. The charismatic dancer Leonor Moro and the flamenco guitarist Agustin de la Fuente, who knows how to impress with his captivating playing, will be accompanied by singer Juan Granados and percussionist Ricardo Espinosa. The musicians have already been guests at the Guitar Days in 2004, 2008, and 2013, and each time they brought the hall to a boil. It will be exciting!!

2 - Zsombor Sidoo (Hungary) – A huge talent introduces himself!!
As one of the world's most talented young guitarists, the Hungarian guitarist Zsombor Sidoo (*1997) makes his Darmstadt debut. However, this is not his first time here, as he was one of the prize winners at the prestigious "European Bach Guitar Award," which took place in Darmstadt in 2022. He made a lasting impression on both the jury and the audience. For his concert, he has selected a fantastic program: Bach's 1st Violin Partita (adaptation) as well as works by Henze, Carter, and Ohana.

3 – Practical lecture "The Magic of Interpretation"
Tilman Hoppstock (Guitar)
In this lecture, Tilman Hoppstock will talk about how tonal language works on the guitar. How do you practice phrasing, and what indeed magical sounds can be conjured from the instrument? What are the differences when interpreting a baroque, classical, romantic, or entirely modern avant-garde work? Or are there also similarities? Tilman Hoppstock not only discusses this but will also demonstrate all aspects on the guitar.

4 - Chamber Music Gala - Sprezzatura 22 & Duo Amaris
Two concerts in one! Two fantastic ensembles on the same evening, both for the first time at the Darmstadt Guitar Days!
Sprezzatura22 unites three top musicians into a premier ensemble. The Basque singer June Telletxea meets percussionist Wolfgang Eger. And everything is sonically and harmonically held together by Andreas Arend, who both plucks and bows on a specially developed instrument called the Lyra Polyversalis. The musicians of Sprezzatura have profound knowledge in the field of Early Music. This knowledge, along with their joy of improvisation, folk, and jazz, and the mixing of genres is the hallmark of Sprezzatura 22.
The Duo Amaris consists of singer Julia Spies and Australian guitarist Jesse Flowers. With their charisma and emotionality, the two young musicians regularly enchant their audience and will also delight in Darmstadt with works by Brahms, Debussy, and João Luiz. This concert should not be missed!!

5 - Guitar demonstration – Guitar exhibition
As every year, there will again be the extremely popular guitar exhibition featuring 8 master instruments from various countries. Before the attending guests have the opportunity to test all the guitars themselves, Tilman Hoppstock will present and play each instrument. The special thing: All luthiers typically have long waiting times for their instruments, but here each guitar is directly available for purchase.

6 – Andrea de Vitis (Italy) - The gifted Italian soloist
+ Award ceremony "German Guitar Prize 2024"
The festival concludes with the brilliant Italian guitar virtuoso Andrea de Vitis, who is visiting Darmstadt for the first time. Despite his young age, he is among the greatest artists on guitar worldwide. He has assembled a program specifically for the Guitar Days that expresses the full range of his artistic abilities with works by Sor, Tansman, Castelnuovo-Tedesco, Murail. As a crowning finale, the famous Chaconne by Johann Sebastian Bach will be performed. A worthy finale for the Darmstadt Guitar Days.

7 - MASTER CLASSES
On Saturday (November 2, 2024) and Monday (November 4, 2024) - each from 9:30 to 12:45 - Olaf Van Gonnissen (November 2 + 4), Andrea de Vitis (November 2 + 4), Piera Dadomo (November 2), and Johannes Monno (November 4) will conduct master classes for guitar students. As part of the overall course card, you have the opportunity to experience the great masters in teaching and expand your knowledge. Here you will learn, in a way, the best information regarding interpretation and technical execution on the guitar or general questions about the works covered.

Introducing is a new invitation format, by and with Matthias Vogt. The musician, born in Rüsselsheim, introduces young talents. The special appeal of the concert lies in the fact that versions of the guests' songs, worked out together, are created. In this form and lineup, they will only be heard on this one evening.

Introducing celebrates its premiere on April 26 with a Singer/Songwriter focus: guests include Julie Kuhl and metty.

Julie Kuhl, born in 2005, lives in Frankfurt and released her debut album "Born With Nostalgic Bones" last year. Her music is dreamy and delicate, thoughtful and catchy.

metty released her first EP "Outdated" in 2021 with the Darmstadt label Nektarium. She now lives in Hamburg and writes her songs there, characterized by an absolute directness and both a tonal and emotional depth.

The quartet completes Franzi Aller on bass on stage. The Westerwälderin studied Jazz Bass in Mainz and now lives in Berlin, where she can be heard in the band Conic Rose, among others.

IC Falkenberg - Tour for the new album "Komm an Land"

With IC FALKENBERG, one of the most successful and popular artists from East Germany comes back to Dresden for a live band concert. Since the age of ten, he has been on stage, and in the 80s, he evolved from being the singer, composer, and lyricist of STERN MEISSEN to a solo artist with an enduring stage presence: 54 years and 28 albums speak for themselves. Always taking a stand, always open, and always without excuses.

In his new album "Komm an Land," IC FALKENBERG looks back on his life, where rebellion and self-assertion were always the driving forces. Unperturbed by the rules of the music business, he delivers multi-layered, atmospherically dense compositions with very clever lyrics. He remains abstract and associative like hardly any other German singer.

IC FALKENBERG combines elegiac moods with literary ambition in his pieces as a modern singing poet, distancing himself stylistically from ordinary rock songs. He creates open-hearted intimacy with touching melancholy interwoven with humorous stories. Thus, he manages to sound sensitive without ever drifting into the sentimental. A magical Sunday awaits.

Issue two of our new series for local bands and artists is coming up, and we are excited about a truly high-caliber line-up on 11/01/2024.

Catapults play energetic Emo-Punk that goes from 0 to 100 through the speakers. The sound is defined by the concentrated energy of the four guys and is a fresh variation of 2000s Emo with Pop Punk and Modern Rock influences. F.F.O.: The Wonder Years, Spanish Love Songs, Fallout Boy, Paramore, The Story So Far, Biffy Clyro.

Loose Lips is a three-piece rock band from Oldenburg in Lower Saxony (with roots in Leer). After Jelto (Drums), Enno (Guitar), and Joel (Bass/Vocals) came together in September 2019, they recorded their first demos in the same year. Varied songwriting, catchy melodies, and heavy sounds already form the essence of the band here. In 2022, Loose Lips recorded their debut album "Melancholia" at Limetree Studios, which was co-produced by the band. Its dark, raw sound has already been presented to a growing audience at several concerts, including the Deichbrand Festival.

TUUN (Crew) is a hardcore band founded in 2022 from Leer, with the five musicians considering themselves less a band and more a "Crew". As a group that everyone should feel part of, dancing, singing, and celebrating together at concerts. The band picks up on the spirit of hardcore from the 80s and 90s. Modern riffs blend with classic breakdowns, angry vocals, and group shouts to which everyone is invited. Influences from metal, sludge, and punk are unmistakable.

Cool, emotional, authentic - Thomas Godoj

The name Thomas Godoj has stood for honest and captivating rock music with German lyrics for more than a decade. With his now eight studio albums, the singer looks back on a diverse repertoire. Even though he surprised with previously unfamiliar hardness on his last two albums, catchy melodies and emotional ballads are also not neglected by him.

Since 2008, Godoj has consistently driven his solo career forward, taking his own and independent musical as well as business paths. In 2014, he founded his label TOMZILLA musik and has financed four studio albums and an acoustic album through crowdfunding, with project sums totaling over half a million euros, making them among the most successful campaigns in the music industry. In this way, he involves his fans in the creation process of his music, creating a unique sense of community.

In the midst of the pandemic in November 2021, his current album "STOFF" was released. The musical change in direction initiated by the predecessor 13 Pfeile in 2018 continued here, which was a risk, but Godoj's fans gladly followed this path, and he couldn't wait to go back to the studio to produce new "STOFF". The album title was quickly evident! Those who already embraced the harder tracks on the previous album will greatly enjoy STOFF. STOFF is complex and multi-layered, thick guitar sounds blend with plenty of melody and Godoj's unmistakable voice. Overall, the album comes with a forceful musical impact that is unparalleled in German rock. The lyrics also have substance and weight.

The extraordinary symbiosis with his fans can be felt at every concert by the artist. The interplay between the audience's euphoria and the pure joy of playing by the musicians make Godoj's shows very special experiences full of emotions. The likable singer knows how to captivate and excite the audience at every concert. He may even jump off the stage and engage directly with his viewers. Godoj can rely on his authentic stage presence and, not least, on his fantastic live band.

Eight Classical Concerts

Those who involuntarily witness conversations on the train, in their favorite pub, or randomly zapping through reality formats on television inevitably ask themselves whether our society is becoming increasingly unintelligent. Nowadays, the content on TV is as shallow as the devices on which it can be received. Yes, intellect is cool. And perhaps even a bit cooler than before.

In a time when self-appointed humor and morality guardians decide what is funny and what is not, Özgür Cebe faces the wind and embarks on a quest to discover the reason behind this oversensitivity. Cebe believes that sometimes we should cut each other some slack and forgive missteps. After all, we are all human. For now! He also wonders whether common sense is still relevant. Natural stupidity vs. artificial intelligence - who will win the race? Are algorithms as smart as they want us to believe? "I don't think so, because according to my streaming service recommendations, I am a romantic ax murderer with a penchant for spaceships!" Or is reason and intuition more valuable today?

The multi-award-winning cabaret artist delves into these and many other questions. Because "...life is not your next post on Instagram. Life is what happens before and after the post." Ingenious, humorous, satirical, and perhaps a bit politically incorrect. Experience an evening full of wit and truth, full of sharp edges, positive energy, and gripping punchlines, because one thing is certain: intellect is cool. Especially when you possess it!

Talented students from Ukraine, Belgium, France, and Germany gratefully and enthusiastically seized the opportunity to refine their skills under the guidance of internationally renowned teachers and compete musically. As in previous years, the competition winners will have the opportunity to perform as soloists with the State Orchestra Frankfurt (Oder) at the Seelow Cultural Center. In addition, the outstanding performances will be showcased in a concluding concert at the Altlandsberg Castle Church. We look forward to working with top-notch professors such as Prof. Lev Myronovych Zakopets, who will be leading the oboe course for the first time, Prof. Olga Zolotareva (violin), and Prof. Josef Schwab (cello), who have been integral parts of our master class for many years.

We anticipate an exceptionally high artistic level from the course and competition participants, who will captivate the audience at the Altlandsberg Castle Church with their performances."

Jeremy, a passionate journalist, has set out with his camera woman to chase a promising story for his report. On eerie paths, they stumble upon the dark castle of Countess Viktoria, with whom Jeremy wants to conduct an interview. However, contrary to expectations, the dark estate harbors a colorful group of vampires, who, after their initial desire to drink the two humans dry, involve Jeremy and his assistant in their daily lives.
But then the tranquility in the castle is disrupted when Geneve, the representative of the Vampire Regulatory Council, arrives with her assistant Elise to oversee compliance with the prevailing regulations for vampires. Regulations of which most vampires are not even aware: drinking from children is prohibited, playing with one’s food is not allowed, and to better integrate castle ghosts, every vampire castle must host at least one.
Absorbed in their duties, Geneve does not yet suspect that she will encounter a familiar face in the castle.
Suddenly, all castle dwellers are confronted with a previously hidden past; and with a law enforcer who, to gain revenge, has no qualms about disregarding her beloved laws.

Doesn't happiness sometimes lie closer than we think? In a remote corner of the city park sits HIM, surrounded by his books, his radio, and the ducks in the nearby pond. The elderly gentleman seems to be at peace with himself and the world. Then one day, SHE bursts into this idyll. Vivacious, excited, and not at all satisfied with herself and the world, she is on her way to the café opposite. Are the men she meets there for her first rendezvous, the right ones? A romantic comedy for two actors that brings the spring back into the autumn of life.
