What would happen if the horizon were no longer lying in the distance, but right in our hands? How would it be if we carried the earth? Would we take better care of it?
A miniature world, a playground full of possibilities unfolds on stage. Curious hands explore it: move it, shape it, enlarge it, crush it. Gradually, the world becomes more full. And heavier.
Plateau is a poetic encounter between theater, illustration and film for which three young voices from the Flemish theater community have come together: the theater maker and illustrator Fran Van Gysegem, the actor Milan Van Bortel and the musician Visjal Auwerx create an intimate reflection of our treatment of the environment which will have its German premiere at Theater der Dinge.

Hyperrealistic miniature puppet theater

Megan is living the so-called American Dream – everything is possible; you just have to want it. When she receives a luxury trip to outer space for her birthday, her biggest wish finally comes true. From the distance of outer space, however, the contradictions of the conflicted planet Earth appear more clearly to her than she had expected. Her belief that all human beings have the same opportunities to succeed begins to crumble. Puppentheater Klaipėda creates a brilliant satire and asks if space travel is not ultimately just a way to run away from the problems that we have ourselves created.
"Transport" is a six-part theater series that has been celebrated across Europe that concerns itself with the effects of mobility in a globalized world. All productions use individually created scenographies consisting of realistically designed spaces, buildings, streets and public infrastructure that are inhabited by 3D printed characters.

On a March 26, the earth opens up and, with Heiko, not only does someone believed dead reappear, but also the memory of a distant yesterday and its ghosts who do not want to leave the present alone. When the mining waste buried Heiko, the world still seemed to be another and the coal was black gold. Today, the undead is standing there, in a new age and beautiful world between seas, forests and the grass that is growing over everything.
Using the tools of contemporary music and puppet theater, a historical automatic player piano and mechanical theater, the puppet theater performer Moritz Schönbrodt and the composer Johannes Kürschner create an intense theatrical experience about the failure to remember the past.

Hyperrealistic miniature puppet theater

Airports are hubs where the contradictions of a globalized world, in which goods circulate freely while human beings are stopped at the borders, especially arise. "Transport: Connecting Flights" follows a family who has been forced to flee their homeland through the terminal: a place of hope and hopelessness where prejudices and institutional obstacles are painfully experienced. Puppentheater Białystok demands responsibility against the backdrop of European migration policy and reminds us that our actions, or our silence, shape the world.

Floods, droughts, fires. These especially affected Slovenia in 2023: rivers swelled massively thanks to heavy rain, causing floods and landslides. Transport: Departure penetratingly documents the story of a family whose home fell victims to the masses of water. The production by Puppentheaters Ljubljana looks at how individual decisions are interweaved with political and economic structures and asks what future is still possible if humanity ignores the boundaries of nature.

Every day, between 20 and 50 million trucks are underway on the streets of the world. They supply us with goods and keep the economy running. At the same time, the industry increases the pollution of the environment and regularly violates the rights of the workers. Using the example of a truck driver under time pressure, Puppentheater Maribor explores this systemic conflict: driven by obstacles that pile up on the highway, a random encounter at night occurs as well as a catastrophe the next morning. "Transport: Cargo" asks about responsibility, justice and the ecological burdens of our consumption.

What do the belongings of a person say about them? Let’s find out over the course of a game. You receive a piece of paper. There is a drawing of a desk stuffed to the gills on it. And numbers. Each number stands for an object. Each object stands for an anecdote, a story, a piece of life. You can choose a number. And the performance will unfold before your very eyes on its own.
Inbal Yomtovian has surprised the audience of Theater der Dinge many times already. This year, she returns to Berlin with a piece of object theater without objects. Inspired by the work of the artist Daniel Spoerri and his book An Annotated Topography of Chance, she creates a powerful space of imagination where humorous banalities, biographical turning points and intimate injuries unfold next to each other and the ambivalences of a life can be felt.
