Who would have guessed that on October 17, 2000, an unusual band made its debut at Arigato, a trendy pub right by Marienplatz in Stuttgart? Two acoustic guitars, a wooden box called Cajon, and two gifted voices. That was all it took to bring a fat sound to the stage, which was far from the rather thin sound of other acoustic combos. Behind it stood, of course, masterful musical abilities, the right touch for arrangements, an elaborate technique, and meticulous tweaking of the sound. The DICKEN FISCHE were born.
Originally based in the quiet Holzgerlingen near Böblingen in the south of Stuttgart, many performances soon followed in this area, including the regular, legendary concerts at the Atrium in Altdorf, which quickly became bursting at the seams with patrons. Thus, the number of fans increased explosively with each performance. A legendary reputation preceded the DICKEN FISCHEN, for besides their good sound, the DICKEN FISCHE had two other special features:
They played well-chosen songs in their unusual lineup with good taste, in their own way, aptly named VERDICKFISCHT, which gave them a personal touch as a band. And they celebrated their performances with a dedication and attention to the audience that readily absorbed and reciprocated these emotions.
Thus, a local band quickly turned into a well-known act throughout southern Germany, providing an intense musical experience. The DICKEN FISCHE hype eventually led to 200 performances annually, the production of several CDs with original songs and own books, and a fan club that followed them from concert to concert.
The ten-year anniversary at the Wilhelma Theater in Stuttgart was a special highlight. Against the venerable backdrop of the classical building, the DICKEN FISCHE were able to shine alongside renowned guest musicians from the international scene and leave deep impressions.
Years of personnel changes and the inclusion of additional musicians followed. Nonetheless, the core of the DICKEN FISCHE and their performances has always remained intact: first-class, fat sound in a small setting. Rock, pop, and reggae with original or verdickfischten cover songs. Performances full of emotions, where the spark jumps from the musicians to the audience and back again.
What has changed in the last 25 years? The musicians of today’s DICKEN FISCHE have matured musically and developed their performances further, becoming more flexible. They perform in various arrangements, sometimes as a quartet instead of a trio. What has remained the same? The DICKEN FISCHE are still the DICKEN FISCHE, unmistakably and incomparably.
They will prove this at the anniversary concert in the Sindelfinger Pavilion of IG Kultur, ensuring a lively celebration where we will look back at the last 25 years with admiration and respect and celebrate exuberantly until Anjel Ferry, the bandleader, asks: "Can you still go on?" We say "yes" and Anjel replies: "That's good to hear. We can still go on too."
