Experience the festive build-up to the most beautiful time of the year – with 1000 Lights Concerts!
The opera and musical star Deborah Sasson, living in Bensheim, has come up with something very special for the end of 2024. Together with Tchaikovsky Prize winner Iwan Urwalow on the piano and wonder violinist Ashraf Kateb, she will bring some of the most beautiful churches in Germany into a festive mood – with concerts of the highest caliber.
This event is presented in the unique atmosphere of the 1000 Lights Concerts. In a sea of light, visitors will be surrounded by thousands of lanterns and candles. There is no more romantic and reflective way to usher in the Christmas season.
On these wonderful evenings, arrangements of the most beautiful Christmas songs in the world will be heard. "These concerts will undoubtedly be a very special experience," Deborah Sasson is excited to say. The internationally successful soprano and Echo Award winner is a master of crossover, perfectly mastering every musical genre. Thus, many titles from various genres will also be presented at the Christmas concert.
Deborah Sasson: "Especially for me as an American, Christmas is something very special. The sparkle, the festive atmosphere, and that special excitement that fills the air as the year comes to an end are wonderful," says the Boston native.
A piece of her homeland is thus brought along: "Rudolph, The Red Nosed Reindeer" and "Jingle Bells" or "Santa Claus Is Coming To Town" will, of course, also be heard. However, the first part of the concert will consist of great classics such as "Gloria," "Ave Maria," or "Panis Angelicus," and much more. Christmas songs from Germany, England, France, and the USA will be played. Classically arranged, but modernly interpreted – that is the trademark of Echo-Classik award winner Deborah Sasson.
She is accompanied by world-class pianist Iwan Urwalow. The Russian pianist was born in St. Petersburg, where he received a comprehensive musical education. Since 1991, he has been living in Germany. At the Kassel Music Academy, he leads a sought-after piano class and master courses, from which multiple prizewinners have emerged in international competitions. Tchaikovsky Prize winner Urwalow combines virtuoso elements in his playing with a deeply felt musicality and a rare sensitive interpretive power. The press continually admires his impressive technique, powerful virtuosity, sovereign elegance, as well as his multifaceted and expressive playing.
No less talented and versatile is solo violinist Ashraf Kateb. He studied music at the conservatories of Aleppo, Moscow, Berlin, and Krakow. He already won leading prizes in his childhood in the USA, Poland, etc. He performed as the Arab representative of the Philharmonie der Nationen under the direction of famous conductors including Leonard Bernstein, Justus Franz, and many others. Today, he lives in Berlin, where he participates as a soloist in chamber music ensembles and orchestras and works as a teacher. Together with Iwan Urwalow, he forms the duo Aruso, which is celebrated worldwide.
There will be many joint pieces; concerts that will wonderfully immerse us all into the Christmas season. Deborah Sasson looks forward to presenting her concerts in the most beautiful churches in Germany in a breathtaking 1000 Lights ambiance that perfectly and atmospherically fits into the architecture of the venues. Here, all lovers of good music experience an unforgettable evening in a Christmas-romantic atmosphere that they will gladly take home as a lasting memory!
Deborah Sasson captivates a large audience with her versatile voice and impressive interpretive power in musical, operetta, and opera roles and crosses the boundaries of genres into the popular area as effortlessly as convincingly."
