The international legal protection of human rights faces a paradox: While regional courts make landmark decisions on climate justice, the rule of law, and discrimination, human rights institutions are increasingly under pressure due to democratic backsliding and authoritarian trends. On the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the African Court on Human and Peoples’ Rights, high-ranking representatives of international and national courts will discuss the future of regional human rights protection, the dialogue between the courts, and how to deal with increasing political pressure:
Dr. Blaise Tchikaya, President of the African Court on Human and Peoples’ Rights
Prof. Dr. Ann-Katrin Kaufhold, Vice President of the Federal Constitutional Court
Prof. Dr. Anja Seibert-Fohr, Judge at the European Court of Human Rights
Welcome: Prof. Dr. Helmut Philipp Aust, Director at MPIL
Moderation: Prof. Dr. Matthias Goldmann, Professor of International Law at EBS Law School
In cooperation with the Max Planck Institute for Comparative Public Law and International Law
