I kill you back (UA)
Two worlds, two lives. In one world, you have to eat, drink, sleep, and go to school. You have a name that was given to you even before you were born, you have skin blemishes and bad hair days. In the other world, you don’t have to do anything if you don’t want to. Choose your name yourself (how about Dora The Destroyer?), and as for the skin blemishes: just filter them out. And if you feel different from others, find friends and allies who understand you because they are different too!
The internet - the ultimate free space. Until it isn’t anymore, and those who invade that space: the creeps, haters, and stalkers, who pretend to be admirers, friends, fans. Violence online is a broad field. It ranges from “harmless” harassment to outright threats (“I kill you, bitch!”). It includes hate speech, cyberbullying, stalking, and doxing. The majority of victims: girls and women. The majority of perpetrators: male. #rapeculture #slutshaming. Many victims respond by withdrawing from the online world. They delete their accounts on TikTok & Co, they delete their messenger apps, they delete themselves. In the end, the perpetrators are always right.
Not at all, says Zonta. Zonta International, a global association of women in leadership positions, promoting the empowerment of girls and women. The Zonta Club of Erlangen has – in collaboration with the Schauspiel Erlangen – commissioned a play. The authors Anita Augustin and Natalie Baudy have – in collaboration – written a piece. I kill you back tells the story of a young woman who becomes a victim but doesn’t want to remain one: Dora The Destroyer, a superhero without superpowers, but with blemished skin and bad hair every day, and she can kill!
