Mel D
With a voice that manages to sound both extraordinarily clear and melancholic, Mel D has the potential to be something surprisingly rare: a singer who can do so much more than just sing.
The young singer-songwriter already drew attention with her EP Not Crazy, released in October 2024. In September 2025, her debut album Young Bones was released under the label Two Gentlemen. With nine beautifully composed tracks full of poetry, oscillating between longing and melancholy, the versatile yet distinctive voice of Mel D resonates – fragile and powerful, intense and playful, and above all, emotional.
The debut album Young Bones is a tender embrace and holds many empathetic moments. Mel D speaks the language of the zeitgeist while sounding timeless. Her unique musical style plays with various pop genres like indie and alternative. The songs sometimes sound baroque, sometimes jazzy, sometimes soulful, contemplative, or demanding. Each piece on this album is an ode to connection – with the world, with others, and above all: with the beauty of music. It touches deeply.
“The current world seemed to overwhelm me with its countless challenges, and it felt like we were running in completely the wrong direction,” Mel D recounts. She does not let herself be crushed, but transforms her feelings of sorrow, as well as anger, into creativity. And she gives the pain of the world a voice that seduces, comforts, and inspires. With her debut album, the young musician sings us towards hope. Her songs deal with care, solidarity, humanity, togetherness, and empowerment – and the notion that it’s okay to feel how you feel.
Mel D recorded the album in Zurich and Paris and collaborated with two great contemporary producers: Renaud Letang, who has produced for Feist, Chilly Gonzales, Lianne La Havas, among others, and producer and multi-instrumentalist Dino Brandão. The latter immediately recognized her talent and recorded the first notes shortly after their first meeting in his basement studio in Zurich. He was also the one who suggested her for Faber's band.
Her solo project ultimately came about more by chance, Mel D modestly explains. But her passion for music and her talent have been evident from an early age. Music has accompanied Mel D since her early teenage years, and during her Fine Arts studies in Zurich, she founded the electro-pop duo mischgewebe and composed music for theater, film, and exhibitions. She then made her eternal nickname Mel D her artist name - a humorous reference to the Spice Girls. Even though her own persona and songs are primarily profound and melancholic in tone, it’s okay to laugh amidst all the depth. This also makes the musician relatable and approachable.
Anyone who has seen her on stage knows what that means. Last year she toured with Faber, and since then has become a fixture in the band and on major festival stages. “The stage is my home,” says Mel D, captivating audiences with an incredible stage presence. The passionate musician gives her all on stage, blending her energy and her joy of playing and experimenting with her deep melodies and emotions that become palpable and felt by the audience.
On March 12, Mel D will come to the beautiful Nachtasyl. It will be a very special evening that you shouldn't miss.
