Berlin - Rostock / Bad Doberan - Ostsee-Express Molli
How about a cheerful outing with family, friends, or colleagues? Enjoy the special atmosphere of traveling like in days gone by. In the historic express train from grandfather's times, there are carriages from the 30s to 60s of the last century. Depending on age, memories come to life or turn the train ride into a completely new experience... enjoy delicious home-cooked meals, cakes, and drinks in the dining car while our museum diesel locomotive 119 158 takes you through the landscapes of Strelitz, Müritz, and Mecklenburg at express train speed to the coast.
Our train visits two destinations today. Choose from the following offers:
1. ROSTOCK – 35th Hanse-Sail
Every year on the second weekend of August, 250 traditional sailing ships, museum steamers, and guest vessels pass the Warnemünde mole. Those who find a spot on the mole are indeed sitting in the front row. Full-rigged ships, barquentines, brigs, and schooners with a total sail area of 60,000 square meters, as well as steamships like the hefty icebreaker Stettin or the sleek Hydrograaf, are among them. Together, they are more than 12,000 years old! Visitors can meet the traditional ships and their crews on the promenades near the giant wheel and rollmops. In Rostock, you have a stay of about 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM. The S-Bahn takes you 8 times per hour in 20 minutes from Rostock to Warnemünde and back (S-Bahn ticket not included in the trip price).
2. BAD DOBERAN - "Molli", narrow-gauge railway on the Baltic Sea coast
Travel in the historic express train from Berlin to the Baltic Sea coast. Through the Mecklenburg Lake District, past Waren (Müritz), and through the Mecklenburg Switzerland, we reach the Bad Doberan station just after Rostock - please change trains! On a length of about 16 kilometers, you can expect the steam-operated narrow-gauge railway "MOLLI" for an exciting ride along the Baltic coast over Heiligendamm to the seaside resort Kühlungsborn (not included in the price. Info: The "Molli" accepts the Germany ticket with a steam train surcharge of 11 euros). Numerous excursion destinations and sights invite you to linger. In Bad Doberan, you have a stay of about 9:20 AM – 5:30 PM.
Our train departs from Berlin-Schöneweide (regional platform, track 1/2) - departure around 6:20 AM, arrival in the evening is around 9:30 PM. You can also get on and off at Berlin Ostkreuz regional platform above (departure around 6:30 AM / arrival around 9:20 PM) and Birkenwerder (S-Bahn platform / departure around 6:50 AM / arrival around 9:00 PM).
Please pay attention to the "correct" departure time on the return trip!
The engine is the museum diesel locomotive 119 158 (120 km/h, built in 1984, 2900 HP, weight 100 tons, length 19 meters). Although it is not that old, it is one of the very few locomotives of this type still in existence and has been used since 2001 by the Steam Locomotive Friends Berlin e.V. for nostalgic journeys in the summer. Unlike in the steam locomotive era, the use of steam locomotives is not allowed today from forest fire level 4. To still allow the travel experience in the historic train with dining car to attractive destinations in summer, the Steam Locomotive Friends Berlin offer excursion rides to more distant destinations with this locomotive.
There is a discount for families: If at least 2 adults travel with several children over 6 years old, 2 to 4 children can receive a reduced fare. For this, choose the price category "Child (6-14) for family ticket" for children aged 6 to 14 years.
