The Jambo Trio is inspired by the classic tradition of Samba Jazz trios from the 1950s and 1960s and combines elements of North American jazz, samba, Latin jazz, and bossa nova. The repertoire includes both original compositions and works by composers associated with this genre, such as Baden Powell, Moacir Santos, César Camargo Mariano, J. Meirelles, João Donato, and others.
The Jambo Trio has a classic lineup: jazz piano trio – piano, double bass, and drums. On piano: Luis Henrique New, on bass: Everson Vargas, and on drums: Ricardo Arenhaldt.
All members of the Jambo Trio have academic training in music and are also active as educators in addition to their performance work. The Jambo Trio members have gained professional experience in various parts of the world, including Japan, Europe, Latin America, and North Africa.
The group was formed in 2019 and is increasingly gaining importance in the Brazilian cultural scene. Their repertoire consists of original compositions as well as works by some composers who inspired the emergence of the characteristic sound of the Jambo Trio.
After years of work and intensive musical development, the three members of the Jambo Trio feel ready to record an album of original compositions, as they have already presented this repertoire with great acclaim and success at jazz festivals and events for instrumental music.
The diversity of musical experiences among the three members contributes to the development of the trio's musical language, which has now evolved into a unique, unmistakable sound with a lot of personality.
Reinterpretations, if they occur, are already in line with the musical language and concept of the Jambo Trio.
It is important to mention that samba jazz trios served as a foundation for numerous artists of bossa nova and MPB (Música Popular Brasileira).
The Jambo Trio is increasingly establishing itself as a significant group in the instrumental music scene and has already participated in numerous events at cultural and institutional venues.
In 2023, the group performed on two significant stages: at the International Jazz Day (an event initiated by pianist Herbie Hancock that takes place worldwide every year) at the Farol Santander and at the Poa Jazz Festival.
Furthermore, the group has committed to give eight concerts at Sixteen Jazz in 2023. During these, they regularly invite musicians and singers from the music scene, create varied programs, including tributes to Raul de Souza and Adão Pinheiro, and collaborate with international musicians such as Ademir Cândido, Jorginho do Trumpete, Juliano Barreto, and others.
