Else (Someone)
ELSE (SOMEONE)
Youth play by Carina Sophie Eberle
Age recommendation: from 14 years
The youth play else (someone), which the Young Theater of the Badische Landesbühne will present at the beginning of the 2024/25 anniversary season in the Hexagon, is based on Arthur Schnitzler's novella from 1924, Fräulein Else. The production directed by Gina Jasmina Wannenwetsch premieres on Friday, September 20th, at 7:30 PM. Finally, summer vacation! Else is lying with her friends by the mountain lake in front of the old castle hotel, sunbathing, drinking lemonade, flirting - everything seems carefree. But there is tension at home. Her father, a respected lawyer, is not only gambling away his money but also the family's happiness. Suddenly, the very wealthy Dorsday stands before Else's deck chair, an old friend of her father's. What a coincidence, her mother thinks. Couldn't he help the family out? Of course he can! But in return, he wants to see Else, the little one he has known since she was in diapers, without her bikini. What's wrong with that, right? A young woman experiences sexual harassment, nothing new. Despite emancipation, else still finds herself torn between stereotypical images of femininity and the anger towards a society that clings to patriarchal norms, even 100 years after Arthur Schnitzler's novella Fräulein Else. It's about time to tear them down!
