ISTANBUL
A play with music by Sezen Aksu
The play tells a moving story of the search for love and happiness through scenes in German and songs in Turkish. At the center of the action is Reinhold Weiser, who plays the Stuttgart worker Klaus Gruber. In search of work, he leaves his Swabian homeland and heads to Istanbul, the vibrant metropolis on the Bosporus. For this is the surprising twist of the play: What if the economic miracle had happened not in Germany, but in Turkey?
The German-Turkish ensemble, the powerful live band, and the wonderful music of Sezen Aksu, the queen of Turkish pop, enthrall a diverse audience night after night. "Stuttgart seems to have been waiting for this piece," wrote the press (GEA): "A plea for tolerance and friendship in turbulent political times" (LKZ).
Featuring Ursula Berlinghof, Irfan Kars, Reinhold Weiser, and others.
