Kerstin Langenberger & Olaf Krüger
Olaf Krüger and Kerstin Langenberger share a passion for the nature and culture of the North. After six dynamic years of research, they present the most beautiful and wildest islands of Northern Europe in an exciting live show!
Iceland, the legendary natural wonder of fire and ice. Greenland, the homeland of the Inuit and astonishing records. Spitsbergen, the arctic El Dorado for wildlife photographers from around the world. The island nation of the Faroe Islands, famous for both its weather whims and its steep cliffs. And of course: the Lofoten, which are not only home to cod fishermen but also a true paradise for lovers of the Northern Lights.
The award-winning nature photographer Kerstin Langenberger has lived in Scandinavia for ten years. For her presentation, she photographed, among other things, the eruption of the Icelandic volcano Eyjafjallajökull. She trained for a year in Spitsbergen to become an Arctic Nature Guide, encountered polar bears and walruses, and documented the longest dog sled race in Europe.
Olaf Krüger, a photojournalist and passionate traveler, trekked for weeks through Hornstrandir, Iceland's rugged north, before discovering the breathtaking nature of East Greenland. It stands in stark contrast to the sobering living conditions of the Inuit. In the Faroe Islands, he attended one of the legendary cave concerts by the composer Kristian Blak and was swept up in the football enthusiasm of the Faroese. Time and again, he noted that clocks tick slower on the 18 islands in the North Atlantic. The word "kanska" (maybe) is deeply embedded in the vocabulary of the Faroese, and whether the ferry actually departs is still determined by the weather!
For their live multi-vision show "Islands of the North," Kerstin and Olaf spared no effort: compelling portraits, sumptuous landscape shots, and dancing Northern Lights on the screen in never-before-seen time-lapse sequences tempt viewers to wonder and dream. Rarely have audiences experienced the fragile beauty of the North so directly—unless they have traveled there themselves.
Kerstin Langenberger fell head over heels in love with Scandinavia after graduating from high school and has spent over ten years in Iceland and a year each in Norway, South Georgia, and Spitsbergen since then. The globetrotter works as an Arctic Nature Guide, hut warden, ranger, and photographer. Her extraordinary images have been internationally awarded multiple times, including at the "GDT European Nature Photographer of the Year," "Glanzlichter," and "Asferico." Her first picture book "50 Highlights of Iceland" immediately became a bestseller.
The camera is for Kerstin Langenberger the medium with which she can best convey her love for nature. She expects and works for her motives on often long (ski) hikes, consciously refraining from motorized transport. She tries to align her life as closely as possible with climate and nature protection while also inspiring others to treat nature with respect.
Olaf Krüger has been one of the most well-known and successful speakers in the German-speaking world for many years and has made a name for himself as a photojournalist specializing in India and the high north of Europe. He studied art history and German studies in Tübingen. His great passion for travel and photography took him around the globe before he traveled to India for the first time in 1990. In 2011, he was awarded the Gisela Bonn Prize for his outstanding contributions to German-Indian relations and for his work as a photojournalist in New Delhi.
Since 2004, he has dedicated himself particularly to Iceland and the Arctic. His picture book "50 Highlights of Iceland" has been a bestseller for years. Most recently, the volume "Legendary Iceland" was published in 2019 by Frederking & Thaler and "The Travel Book Iceland" in 2022 by Bruckmann.
Olaf's images and reports have been frequently published (GEO, Die Zeit, Spiegel, Harenberg and Weingarten calendar publishers, Abenteuer und Reisen, among others). He is a staff photographer for the image agency imagebroker and the founder of the Stuttgart lecture series TRAUM & ABENTEUER, as well as the online portal WELT & WIR.
