Musikalischer Stadtspaziergang I Lieben wie zu Luthers Zeiten
Wittenberg is to be rediscovered with open eyes and ears to historical sounds: Participants in the musical city walk can already look forward to it! Even at the 20th Wittenberg Renaissance Music Festival, the Wittenberg Hofkapelle, the Praetorius Consort Wittenberg, and their guests invite you this Saturday afternoon to stroll through the original locations of the Reformation and offer extraordinary listening experiences in representative places of the Luther city. The young musicians from the Torgau Music School, who contributed to the success of this extraordinary tour last year, will also be part of it again in 2025.
During approximately half an hour of opening music in the Castle Church, popular compositions from then and now will be played – songs and dances of the Renaissance, intertwined with musical themes, melodies, and motifs from the soundtracks of modern movie hits that are subtly but unmistakably woven in, such as from "Tennessee," "The Lord of the Rings," and "Pirates of the Caribbean." Above all, it is, in the spirit of the festival motto, about two existential things: love and peace. Thus, on this afternoon, the famous couple of Wittenberg and the 500th anniversary of Martin Luther's wedding play a significant role.
After the opening, interested individuals can join the musical city walk in groups – accompanied by experienced city guides, of course. As they stroll through Wittenberg, they will enjoy further musical performances, among others in the Old Town Hall, in the Fronleichnamskapelle next to the Town Church, and in the Café Klatschmohn, and experience the impressive sound of historical instruments like harps, lutes, viols, and crumhorns.
As capacity is limited, it is advisable to order tickets in good time. And one should bring a little time with them: It can take two and a half to three hours when it comes to "Loving like in Luther's times."
