The ballet ensemble of the state theater brings temperament and Mediterranean passion to the stage with the creations of Mauro Bigonzetti and Cayetano Soto. The award-winning Spanish choreographer Cayetano Soto is considered a distinctive voice in modern ballet. Characteristic of his work is an eccentric and often ironic approach that captivates the audience. Inspired by musicals of the 1920s and 30s, he created the ballet CONRAZONCORAZON. The title plays with the words “heart” (Corazon) and “mind” (Razon) and thus also reflects the artistic creative process in which thoughts and feelings seek their expression. The choreography is a powerful, very physical ensemble piece: witty, exuberant, and fast. SORTIJAS (Rings) is inspired by a circular band that entangles people in intricate relationships.

Emotional, passionate, and immediate, Mauro Bigonzetti’s work also tells of human relationships, encompassing seduction, love, conflict, and jealousy. With CANTATA, Bigonzetti traces his own roots and spreads a southern flair as he conjures the wild beauty of the Mediterranean. The piece is inspired by Italian music from the 18th and 19th centuries, from lullabies to the Pizziche of Salento, with a nod to Neapolitan serenades. The energetic dance showcases the play of opposites: man and woman, sun and moon, love and violence.
