Island & Grönland – Naturparadiese des Nordens - 3D Multivisionsshow von Stephan Schulz
Island
Fireball and Ice Land at the same time, Iceland and Greenland are primarily destinations for nature lovers. Hissing geysers, thundering waterfalls, colorful mountain ranges, and massive glaciers in endless expanses alternate with barren gravel deserts. By car, bike, ship, and on foot, 3D photographer Stephan Schulz visited both islands in all seasons, and he rode over the highland desert of Sprengisandur on the back of Icelandic horses. In humorous narratives, he describes how he struggles on his bicycle through partly dreadful corrugated iron tracks in the highlands, where fording icy glacial rivers represents the most pleasant part, or how, in winter, he has to fear being blown off the road by a hurricane gust while driving on the completely frozen ring road in no man's land...
From a photographic perspective, Stephan Schulz was also fascinated by these islands. The constantly changing weather conditions create unique lighting moods, and the long winter nights are illuminated by incredibly beautiful northern lights. The clear air and intense colors also prompted Stephan Schulz to document these islands repeatedly by helicopter, plane, and drone in spectacular aerial shots.
Even underwater, true treasures revealed themselves to him: He dove with seals and giant humpback whales, experienced the clearest water in the world with 120m visibility, and encountered a spectacular underwater chimney that only occurs in the deep sea. He rode a dog sled with ice diving gear over the frozen Sermilik Fjord to dive under the ice cover among icebergs frozen in -3 degrees cold water.
Along with all these natural treasures, Stephan Schulz also sheds light on critical issues such as whaling, mass tourism, or energy-intensive aluminum smelters that pose a crossroads for the Icelanders in terms of environmental policy.
On his journey, he also met some unusual people: the enthusiastic soccer commentator Gummi Ben, or Hildibrandur, who processes greenland shark and considers the somewhat acquired taste of this fish a delicacy. In Greenland, he encountered the Inuit, for whom climate change and the infiltration of the Western lifestyle meant a drastic cultural shock and loss of identity.
