Der erste letzte Tag
Play based on the novel by bestselling author Sebastian Fitzek
Not a thriller - but a comedy
Production: Theater Trier / Tournee-Theater Thespiskarren
Two completely opposite people are forced by external circumstances to spend an entire day together. Livius Reimer and the exuberant Lea von Armin must share the last available rental car to get from Munich to Berlin after their flight was canceled. While the conforming teacher and aspiring father wants to save his marriage, despite his wife Yvonne having cheated on him, Lea's plans, which Livius sees as the living embodiment of the cliché "tofu terrorist," change from one minute to the next. No wonder, as the lively journalist actually intended to travel for an interview with the "Last Day Men,” a group of people who live for a day as if it were their last.
Inspired by the idea, Lea persuades Livius to follow this example and to perceive their shared road trip through the lens of finiteness. Unbeknownst to him, the chaos wave his agreement sets in motion leads to a series of bizarre adventures that delight the audience.
Lea asks a complete stranger at a nursing home for forgiveness – which Livius foolishly interprets as a scam involving a grandson, forcing both to flee. At a rest area, Lea saves a dozen pigs and trades their brand-new rental car for them, leading them to continue their journey in a rusty clunker. Together, they shelter a group of homeless people in a luxury hotel in Leipzig, for which Livius gives up all his savings. After all, he doesn't want to think about tomorrow.
In Dessau-Roßlau, they unwittingly experience the unconventional massage techniques of a Chechen wellness guru up close and meet Lea's husband in a Hamburg pizzeria, who is not pleased to see his bride again after she left him at the altar.
And as if all that weren't turbulent enough, the smartphone sends discrediting travel impressions to Yvonne at the most inconvenient times – just a few hours before the marriage counseling is supposed to begin…
Amid all the comedy, star author Sebastian Fitzek poses very existential questions in his novel “Der erste letzte Tag” about meaning, obligation, individuality, and conformity. In the end, an unforeseen twist awaits the audience that makes them see the world with different eyes.
A touching story about truth, overcoming, love, and friendship with lovable characters and quirky humor.
