Step right up! Workshop for children aged 5 and their parents at 11:30 AM at the Stadtmuseum, Burgstr. 11 Price: 5 € per person including materials

What do a clown, an acrobat, and a juggler have in common? They amaze people with their physical skills. With theater pedagogical exercises, we bring scenes from the exhibition to life. Afterwards, we will turn our impressions into masks with colorful materials in the museum workshop.

The painter and graphic artist Max Beckmann (1884 – 1950) is among the most significant German artists of the first half of the 20th century. Meanwhile, the circle of his students is almost unknown. Although Beckmann taught a master class at the Städelschule in Frankfurt am Main for several years – from 1925 to 1933 – there is no "Beckmann School." In 1933, Beckmann was dismissed from teaching by the National Socialists – the circle of his students dissolved before a school significantly shaped by Beckmann could develop from the class.

The exhibition illuminates the artistic development of Theo Garve, Georg Heck, Walter Hergenhahn, Inge Hergenhahn-Dinand, Leo Maillet, Friedrich Wilhelm Meyer, and Karl Tratt. The exhibition investigates to what extent their artistic development was restricted and their recognition hindered by the circumstances of the time.
