He once said he had “the imp on his back,” the humorist, actor, composer, cabaret artist, and poet Erhardt. He was and still is the uncrowned king of German humor, the great master of jests and delightful wordplay. Unforgettable and unmatched!
The world premiere of the first Heinz Erhardt musical was celebrated in November 2017 in Hamburg. Among the guests were the daughters and granddaughter of the clumsy humorist with the horn-rimmed glasses, who expressed their compliments to the ensemble for the musical. Initially planned only as a guest performance, the Erhardt musical delighted so much that it has become a permanent feature in its home theater, the traditional Hamburg Engelsaal. Now the successful ensemble is touring Germany for the first time.
In the well-structured two-hour program (including a break), the performers Stefan Linker (Heinz Erhardt impersonator), Ralf Steltner, and Karin Westfal engage in a real exchange of banter and recite one Heinz Erhardt poem after another. They are accompanied by piano, saxophone, and drums. Captivating melodies to humorous texts, intertwined with the life story of the greatest German comedian, promise a good mix of spoken and sung texts. These are presented partly individually, partly in duet or trio. The most beautiful poems and ballads of the pun genius, many of which have been set to music for the first time, are skillfully combined and staged in one flow. Whether Knight Fips or King Erl, whether maggot or cow, even the sour lemons and the G-sketch are presented at their best.
The audience is treated to a fireworks display of wordplay, a musical full of comedic memories of the quirky exceptional humorist. Let yourself be transported into the world of Heinz Erhardt; you won’t be able to stop laughing. We promise!
