Guru Guru
Mani Neumeier and his band Guru Guru have been active since 1968 and still have just as much fun crossing boundaries today. Nowadays, Mani seems to be less shaking up social conventions and more overturning biological laws. At the tender age of 82, he drums virtuously as ever through a 90-minute program of psychedelic rock, world music, and jazz elements, performs a percussion solo on his knees with various metal bowls, and hops across the stage dressed as an electric lynx. Musically, Guru Guru has always counted as part of the avant-garde; as experimental and unpredictable as the albums were, so too were the concerts. After the album "Rotate!" was released for the band's 50th anniversary in 2018, the pandemic hit and abruptly ended the ongoing tour in 2020, leading to the departure of guitarist Jan Lindqvist. This prompted the Gurus to reinvent themselves once again. With former Birth Control keyboardist Zeus B. Held, a guitar was replaced with keyboards and synthesizers, expanding the typical Guru Guru sound into new dimensions. Since the concerts resumed, the shows have developed into true surprise eggs, driven by the virtuosity of Mani Neumeier on drums, Peter Kühmedt's precision on bass, the imagination of Zeus on keyboards, and the playful spirit of multi-instrumentalist Roland Schaeffer on guitar, saxophone, and the Indian Nadaswaram. In some pieces, even on both wind instruments simultaneously! In 2021, a show with the new lineup was recorded in Switzerland and is available directly from the band under the title "Made in Switzerland." The first edition of the "official Bootleg" is already sold out!
