The renowned Czech Chamber Philharmonic Orchestra, Prague, also well-known in Germany,
presents three highlights from its extensive repertoire - two masterpieces of Baroque music
(Antonio Vivaldi's "The Four Seasons" and Georg Friedrich Handel's "Water Music") and one of the most important representatives of the Viennese Classical period (Joseph Haydn with his "Farewell Symphony"). The three pieces were
carefully selected and compiled to form a meaningful combination, an appealing
unity, and to elegantly conclude the musical evening.

Antonio Vivaldi's most famous work is "The Four Seasons." The composer, himself a masterful violinist, connected four violin concertos - each concerto describes a season.
Above all, natural phenomena are imitated: in Spring, it is a jumble of various chirping
bird species. In Summer, one can feel the heavy heat and the anticipation of some coolness, followed by a
fierce storm; then the buzzing of bees and swarms of mosquitoes. A drinking song and hunting motifs
describe Autumn. Wind, rain, perhaps even snowfall, contrasted with warming up by the fireplace and,
at last, a skater make the differences of Winter clear: the cozy life indoors
and the harsh climate outside. Many renowned composers (including Joseph Haydn) have devoted themselves to the four
seasons; however, the most ingenious musical description of nature comes from Antonio Vivaldi.
Various anecdotes surround the creation of Georg Friedrich Handel's "Water Music":
The composer is said to have migrated from Hanover (related to the English royal family) to London and, with the accompaniment music for a royal pleasure cruise on the Thames, made his "debut" with his new master, King George I. This, however, is only documented for the second suite.
In any case, His Royal Highness was so delighted that he ordered the "Water Music" and individual
pieces from it to be repeated several times.

The "Farewell Symphony" (No. 45) was created during Joseph Haydn's employment as Kapellmeister at the Esterházy court. As the musicians - with few exceptions - had to serve there without contact with their families during the season,
they longed for vacation. This was also noticeable in their music: it became increasingly slow, sluggish, and tired, until the soloists - one by one - left the stage. Not the only example of Haydn's indestructible and yet
subtle sense of humor.

The core has always been the chamber orchestra, which has remained largely unchanged since its inception and is very well-rehearsed. With numerous guest appearances in Spain, France, Italy, and South Korea, it has built a large following among audiences. The musical direction is led by the orchestra's concertmaster, Tigran Mikaelyan.

However, the heart of the orchestra has always remained the chamber orchestra, which has hardly changed since its founding and is very well attuned to each other. With numerous guest appearances in Spain, France, Italy, and South Korea, it has gained a large circle of friends among the audience. The musical direction is taken by the concertmaster of the orchestra, Tigran Mikaelyan.

Vivaldi's "Four Seasons" are his most famous works ever and continue to enchant with their wonderfully vivid representation of bird songs and dances, summer storms, and biting cold. The four violin concertos belong to a cycle in which Vivaldi published twelve works at once. Two more of these stand in contrast to the seasons at the conclusion of the Baroque series. "Il Piacere" ("The Pleasure") is a cheerful feel-good concert, while "La tempesta di mare" ("The Sea Storm") leads out to the open sea, where whipping winds stir the ocean and the waves rage. The program is conducted by the FKO itself: Concertmaster Ezgi Su Apaydin leads the ensemble in Baroque style from the podium and also plays the solos of the violin concertos. True joy of playing - young, wild, electrifying - an experience!

4-Jahreszeiten Slam Schopfheim

Starting in autumn 2024, the new poetry slam series will take place in the museum cellar in Schopfheim.

The 4-Jahreszeiten Slam takes place four times a year (autumn, winter, spring, summer) and provides a short, varied experience.

A poetry slam evening leads into the land of wild words and reveals very different contents.
The texts must be self-written, the time limit of seven minutes must not be exceeded, and no technical aids may be used. Otherwise, the slam poets will showcase their full talent to captivate the audience with their texts. Between poetry and punk, between meter and prose - no slam is like the next.

The audience acts as the jury and decides with the volume of applause who wins in the end.
It is primarily about the fun of the matter and the love for language.

The evening will be moderated with a healthy dose of humor and mischief by Ansgar Hufnagel.

In 1985, the music world celebrated the 300th birthday of the Baroque masters Bach, Händel, and Scarlatti, and the “European Year of Music” was declared for this occasion. As a birthday gift, there was EUBO: With the European Union Baroque Orchestra founded for this occasion, an ensemble was created that has since been reassembled year after year from the most talented young Baroque musicians in Europe, preparing them for one of the professional ensembles of early music. Regularly, this top orchestra with its singular youthful spirit was a guest at the Deutsche Philharmonie Merck in Darmstadt – until 2017, when EUBO had to cease its activities due to lack of funding. But now we are delighted to announce the return of this musical spring: After a period of inactivity following Brexit, EUBO has moved its headquarters from England to Italy and is back on the European early music stage – and of course back in Darmstadt.

The first program presents three centers of European Baroque music: Germany with Georg Philipp Telemann's incredibly vivid “Water Music,” France with the equally vivid Elements Suite by Jean-Féry Rebel, and Italy, the new EUBO home with Vivaldi's so vital-naturalistic “Four Seasons.”
