The crisis of traditional commercial media is particularly visible among young people and those with a migration background. Both groups tend to consume social media. What does this mean for the Bundestag elections?
An initiative led by church actors aims to forge new paths here. For example, the cooperation with the German-Syrian influencer Omar Meslmani and the use of the short film "Ein Teil werden," produced by the German-Arab cultural association Daruna. Meslmani is also the main actor in this film from 2021. Meslmani reaches hundreds of thousands of young people via Instagram and Facebook. The questions posed in the program are about the role and self-understanding of Arab newcomers, who can also often be first-time voters. Engaging them in the electoral process is a goal.
Prof. Valentin (Director of Haus am Dom) discusses with Meslmani about media and politics in light of new challenges. The event is a cooperation with the Intercultural Media Dialogue Rhein-Main.

The future of Syrians in Germany (around 1 million people), some of whom already hold German citizenship, is currently a very controversial topic, especially during the election campaign. The German media reports extensively on this. The Haus am Dom asks key players: How can it continue with these people in Germany? Do some or even many want to return to Syria in the foreseeable future? Or can those who have already established themselves here help Syria better from Germany? But also: To what extent can Syrians in Germany better organize themselves and collectively respond to the challenges in Germany and Syria? To what extent can they get involved in the Bundestag election campaign?

To inform about the current situation and discuss their proposals:

From what sources do we draw courage for life, joy in shaping, and excitement for the future? Religion can be a source and support, yet it is increasingly foreign to many. What new spiritual narratives are needed so that upright, courageous walking can grow? We reflect on possibilities to fall in love anew with the world and its upheavals and transformations. With feminist process theological impulses and practical experiential paths, we practice together to not shy away from the deep experience of vulnerability and fragility, from provisionality and uncertainty, as well as all finitude, but to understand them as expressions of ongoing creative unfolding. Together we consider what it might mean to affirm our individual and societal biography as incarnation and embodiment, as radical, creative being here.

For over five years, the Roman Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith has been working on the document Dignitas infinita, published in March 2024. This paper was expected as a statement on the gender issue, but after significant revisions in the preceding year 2023, it deals comprehensively with the topic of human dignity on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the Declaration of Human Rights. However, where exactly does human sexuality, which is referred to by the English term gender, appear? The reading seminar with Dr. Holger Dörnemann inquires into what developments in church teaching are noticeable, how queer gender identity is addressed, and what questions remain open.

Die Auferstehung Christi begründet Hoffnung auf Ewiges Leben. Leben und Tod verschränken sich über menschliches und göttliches Erinnern.
