This special project is a coproduction of the Theater der Stadt Schweinfurt with the Compagnia Nuova from Berlin, one of the youngest and most exciting German opera ensembles. Rehearsals and the premiere take place at the Theater im Gemeindehaus, and the opera will go on tour from Schweinfurt.
From Leoncavallo's popular opera »Pagliacci« and Mascagni's hidden gem »Le maschere«, an evening full of humor, passion, and drama arises, centered around the question: What on stage is fiction and what is reality? The ensemble will take us to Southern Italy into the world of Commedia dell’Arte, with dreamy melodies and powerful emotions. For comedy and tragedy often lie close together, as in »Pagliacci«, the piece about the fairground comedians and their »Bajazzo«. The thrilling opera crime can thematically be wonderfully connected with »Le maschere«, the love story of Florindo and Rosaura.
Compagnia Nuova works with passion to bring great romantic opera to life in a tangible way. With excellent operatic voices, infectious joy of performance, and musical as well as acting precision, they reveal the innermost essence of the works. Characteristics include a special sonic density and at the same time a new freedom in acting. Compagnia Nuova's guest performances of »Tosca« and »La Traviata« have already been enthusiastically received in Schweinfurt.
