KOKUBU - one of the world's largest drum shows - is coming to Germany in 2025, taking the audience on a magical journey through Japan, between artistic drumstorms and delicate bamboo flute tones. The acclaimed Japanese drum show KOKUBU captivates audiences with their new show "SOUND OF LIFE" featuring furious rhythms and powerful athleticism.

Japan, the Land of the Rising Sun as it is also known here. It has always exerted a strong fascination. And we are not talking about sushi, judo, or high-performance drift cars. No, the fascination of Japan lies mainly or at least to a large extent in the distinct differences that characterize the country. There is the high-tech nation with numerous global corporations, and then there is an empire with centuries-old traditions. The latter corresponds to the cultural ethos of KOKUBU.

KOKUBU is one of the most famous Taiko drum groups worldwide. With their impressive performance, they unite Japanese culture and energy. Their trademark is the perfect symbiosis of traditional craftsmanship and modern entertainment, captivating audiences of all ages. The drummers of Kokubu are not only virtuosos on their instruments but also masters of staging, creating a magical atmosphere with spectacular choreographies and impressive lighting effects.

KOKUBU is an indescribably captivating experience for the ears, eyes, heart, and soul. The exceptional troupe dressed in black kimonos and white headbands spans the musical spectrum between the ground-shaking acoustic hurricane of the drums, subtle rhythms, and the soft sound of the bamboo flute (Shakuhachi). Founded in 1998, the ensemble from Osaka led by Shakuhachi master Chiaki Toyama brings breathtaking synchronicity or contrasting rhythms to the stage using varying groupings and three differently-sized tube drums (Taikos).

In 2024, two large O-Daiko drums will be used for the first time, giving the group an even more impressive performance. These drums are played by an athlete with two massive, forearm-thick sticks. Delicate flute tones provide the counterpoint. Their Far Eastern sound enchants instantly. Thus, a magically enchanting music for Europeans is created. An understanding of this art deeply rooted in ancient tradition is provided by a brief introduction preceding each piece, explaining (in German) the meaning of the respective songs. "1995 it began, at a semester party now and then…", and since then, three men and one woman from Northern Germany have been captivating their large music and comedy fan base throughout the entire country with only their voices and boundless creativity. LaLeLu, the unique a cappella comedy quartet from Hamburg, is celebrating its 30th stage anniversary, making them one of the few bands with such a long-lasting success story. LaLeLu's statement: "It feels incredible that we have been able to entertain people throughout the country with music and comedy for 30 years. The excitement for this tour and celebrating with our fans is huge! We are so grateful for all the support we have received over the three decades and we will give our all to our audience every night as usual." For the anniversary show, Jan, Tobi, Sanna, and Frank will naturally pull out all the stops from their vast selection of seventeen full-length programs: they will sing their greatest hits and all-time favorites from three decades, as well as long-lost classics and, of course… brand new songs! Since their beginnings, LaLeLu has stood for joyful, theatrical music cabaret with political jabs - unique, witty, funny, spirited, with youthful charm and a lot of love for music.
