Queer Ping Pong as a guest at Gropius Bau: This participative project connects table tennis with queer club culture and creates a social space that transcends the supposed opposition of play and discourse. Accompanied by DJ sets and a concert, newcomers, professionals, artists, and children can come together playfully at Gropius Bau. As part of the solo exhibition of Rirkrit Tiravanija, eight table tennis tables will be set up in the atrium – free and accessible to all. Paddles and balls are ready, so anyone can join in. Especially FLINTA* and Allies are welcome.
During the event, a tournament will take place. Registration is possible in advance via queerpingpong@gmail.com or on the day of the event on site from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM. The tournament starts at 1:00 PM. Capacity for the tournament is limited, first come first serve.
DJ Sets
12:00 PM – 2:00 PM: Yinan
2:00 PM – 4:00 PM: Olympia Bukkakis
4:00 PM – 6:00 PM: Sarah Farina
Concert
6:00 PM – 6:30 PM: Ebow
Ebow has established herself as one of the most important voices in German rap with four released albums and has delivered anthems for the politically conscious among Millennials and Gen Zs. In her current album "FC CHAYA," she focuses entirely on the LGBTQIA+ community and delivers queer love songs. The sound shifts between indie rock influences, RnB, and Y2K cloud rap aesthetics.
Queer Ping Pong adapts to the respective location and integrates movement, music, and post-migrant discourses. The normative setting of club culture is reinterpreted: the events take place during the day and are free of charge. Everything runs in a relaxed manner; the only thing that counts is the joy of play and community – from early afternoon until sunset – including the obligatory rounds at the ping-pong table.
Curation: Yeşim Duman
Project organization: Tülin Duman
Yeşim Duman is a curator, organizer, and works transdisciplinary as well as in collaborative projects. Her work as a music curator in the pop and club context is particularly noteworthy, as she integrates various cultural and musical influences into her projects. Through participative formats like the Çaystube, Queer Chess Club or Queer Ping Pong, Duman creates inclusive spaces that dissolve apparent oppositions between play and discourse. These participatory projects are central to Duman's work and aim to mobilize communities and promote dialogues, for instance, as at a ping-pong table.
Tülin Duman is a queer and human rights activist who has been engaged for many years in various projects against sexism, homophobia, transphobia, and racism. She is a member of F_in – Network of Women in Football, program advisor for the supporting program for UEFA EURO 2024. Duman has been significantly involved in several editions of the Kreuzberg (Transgenial) CSD. From 2008 to 2011, Duman was the managing director of GLADT e.V. (Berlin), an association founded predominantly by Turkish-origin lesbians, gay men, and trans* individuals.
